Just wondering what other peoples opinions of them are? When you see someone with one do you instantly stereotype them as being low class etc

I have a tattoo of a peace dove on my arm, some tattoos are fantastic, artistic and visually impressive, others a scummy ( daggers going up the lower limbs) the tattoos I mean...

Oh unless there is a swastika on their fore head then I would be thinking they are a bit odd,

I love the Celtic bands around the arms and cool designs on the feet.

'tis the young professionals with the tribal ones on the upper arm I think are daft, lack of originality, boring. The sir name on the arm in Irish is worse again.

Edit: Wait I take that back - sometimes you're a clown. I once saw a guy with a shaved head sitting in a bar in Dublin years ago. He had the Nike swoosh thing tattooed on the side of his head. Yes, I'm judging him thank you very much.

I have three and I dont regret any of them. Their not visible unless Im naked anyway. If people think Im lower class for having a bit of body art well their probrably not very intelligent people.

Kind of agree. One of my best friends has several tribal tattoos on his upper arm, though and he's really sound. I always wonder why he didn't think they were tacky and unoriginal because in general he hates stuff like that.

Love them tbh, as long as their not of something ridiculous or samey like something that doesnt mean anything to them, whenever i see tattoos on anyone my eyes are usually drawn towards that, seeing what it is, what it could mean etc

As long as their hidden enough just in case etc, have as many as you want, why not imho

Like most other posters, it's not really the fact that anyone has a tattoo its probably more about the type of tattoo they have. Tattoos can look fantastic and are often done very a mix of art/appearance and personal reasons.

All in all I don't judge people just because they are inked

I've wanted one for ages but I just don't know where to get it, or if I'll still like it in 5 years time etc. Usual story I suppose.

Working in IT and Business would mean I can't get one that's easily visible anyway unfortunately. Still, can see myself with one in particular within the next year or two.

Certain tattoos have certain connotations certainly, such as the tramp stamp for example, but there are a lot of nice tats out there that mean a lot to their bearer so I am definitely in the pro tattoo camp.

I think they are nice I have 2 both mean something and are hidden. The one thing i would never do is have a tattoo of someones name! Know to many ppl who made that mistake

I have two. They're in discreet, unseen places and are small in size. One is for my daughter, the other is an inspiring quote that was said to me when I was going through a very rough time.

I don't regret them. Tattoos are like everything else, if they're done tastefully they are an art. People who judge others for having tattoos are clowns.

Don't see the point in vanity stamps, but if someone wants to brand themselves like cattle that's their business.

I am not a fan. But so long as they are not offensive (e.g. racist) not really my concern. I think visible ones might effect your employment prospects.

Have seen good art, but most are awful.

Wouldn't judge someone for having a tattoo, but what it depicts and how well it sits/nicely it's done would be a big aspect of a first impression for me as it's permanent and a choice, although even at that those initial assumptions could be thrown out in minutes.

But I have one, and I'm planning to get more work done, so that opinion probably doesn't count for much.

You can almost guess the year of someones tattoo because of what designs were "in" that year. Celtic designs, chinese writing, tribal tattoos
Most celtic designs are terrible, but the odd one is done well. Same with the tribal ones, most are like this. Good ones are few and far between. If you're going to do it spend the money and do it right.

All tramp stamps are woeful, no exceptions.

I know a guy with an actual tramp stamp. It is horrific. Needless to say he regrets it a lot.

Most tattoos that are ugly. Well especially the ones I have seen on people here in Ireland. The whole 'it means something special to me' is just an excuse that you got branded like an animal because you couldn't deal with guilt,death,family etc.

I like tattoos in general, but it all depends on what you get done and where. That girl that got 56 stars tattooed on her face looked ridiculous, and I think chinese writing or celtic crosses on the arms are tacky.

I don't mind big tattoos or ostentatious tattoos as long as they're well done and look nice!

I have two tattoos, both on my lower calves (right next to the ankle) and both are fairly small (one is about 2 inches long, one inch in height, the other is about 3-4 inches long, 1 inch or less in height), but I'll be getting a lot of stuff added to the second one. My tattoos are easily hidden and are represent some extremely important things to me, as will the next tattoo I get. I've never been judged for having tattoos either. My mother hates tattoos but even she likes mine, and I've never had anything but compliments, or somebody asking what they mean (one is a number, one is the word 'creideamh.).

Tattoos are no longer just for the lower classes of people. They're a very common trend now, although I think a lot of people who get them need to think a bit more carefully about them. I've met too many people who regret theirs. Even my best friend is getting one of hers removed as she regrets it so much.

What I've also noticed, which písses me off, is that there are so many people who don't bother going to a reputable place, or don't have a well drawn out idea of what they want, and they end up with badly done tattoos, no symmetry, patchy colour/shading, etc. This annoys me because if it's on your body for life, you should damn well make sure you're going somewhere where it'll be a well done tattoo, even if it costs more than other places.

That's one hell of a generalisation.

My tattoos mean something to me, and the meanings have nothing to do with guilt, death, family, etc. My two tattoos are pretty, small and celebrate huge milestones in my life that I never thought I'd reach. My tattoos are a celebration of where I've come from and what I've been through and I will continue to celebrate huge achievements I make (I don't mean things like college, jobs, kids, marriage, I mean personal things) with tattoos as every time I see the ones I have, I feel damn proud of myself.

I saw someone recently who had a where's Wally behind their ear. If I'm a "tool" for judging that person as an idiot fair enough. I think it is ridiculous some of the stuff people get done.

It is a trend that will fade away like everything else except they are permanent.

Saw a tattoo parlour in Dublin last week offering laser removal. I think it's going to big business.
