I haven't read this, but if you enjoy it you might also like 'Berlin' by Antony Beevor. Grim, horrific in parts but a compelling read none the less. Also recommend 'Stalingrad' by the same author.

Back on The Merchant of Venice again for me. Whilst I'm reading a Sahakespeare text , I also read an academic paper on the play, wacth a DVD production and listen to an audio propduction of the play. Not at the same time of course. But it has helped me work through the complete works more than once.

I'm dividing my time between Becoming the Iceman by Wim Hof and Justin Rosales, and Alastair Reynolds' breathtaking Revelation Space.

The former is by an adventurer who holds eighteen world records in ice endurance, they actually had to cut him out of the block at one stage as it had frozen solid, jogged up Kilimanjaro in his boxers, claims he does it by yoga and can teach anyone. The other guy Rosales is a bit of a tourist, but I'm getting into it.

Can't wait to start Blue Blood by Edward Conlon. It's a memoir of his time in the NYPD, it looks brilliant..

That book is a slog to get through. It's the only Dickens book I've read so far (in hindsight I probably should have picked an easier one to start with) and it took me ages to read it. It's a great novel and I did enjoy it but there's a bit too much going on in it for me to "love" it.

Bad Science is brilliant. The author is a little arrogant but makes up for it by with his sarcastic cutting wit.

And some of the stuff in there is a real eye-opener; not only does he cut chancers like Gillian McKeith and Patrick Holford to shreds but also discusses a number of more dangerous people with more powerful profiles that I'd never heard of before:

A Brief History of Time is very good too. Relativity, cosmology, black holes etc. are topics that are far too complicated for my tiny brain to ever comprehend fully but this book does a good job of explaining things at an understandable level.

I have a copy of Fermat's Last Theorem too but haven't read it yet. Went on a book buying craze a while back and now I've 30+ books gathering dust in my room, waiting to be read.
