Seems like the link in this thread has gone dead but just googling dangerous horse race will find it on youtube.

What i can't understand is that their is only 1 arrest when you can clearly see number plates on a number of cars and vans driving on the wrong side of the road.

I watched a Garda pull over a lad on a sulky in Finglas when we were working up there a few weeks ago. The Travveller was trying to ignore the Gard and drive the horse on away from him, so the Gard caught the Travveler by the arm to try and stop him. The lad on the sulky was a big lump of a fella, and when the Gard caugt his arm, the Travveler roared at the Gard "If you break my arm, I'll get off this trap and break your effing kneck ya little b0llix, then I'll clean you with a claim". We got out the popcorn, expecting a big wrestling match and handcuffs, but no, the Gard backed down and Sulky boy headed off on his merry way. Amazing. If I tried it on with a Gard like that, I'd wake up in the Joy with a baton wrapped round my head... Might is right, apparently... Also, all this sh1te about "what could the poor Gard do, there was only one of him.." is b0llox. In the Video, there are at least 4 squad cars passed/involved at some stage and apart from acting the eejit driving in front of the Sulky, feck all is done. 1 arrested! Well done. Some balls and check every yoke for Tax/Insurance/Tickets issued for extreme dangerous driving, etc etc. Not that any of this would/will happen-the cops are terrified of these lads and too busy harassing the softer targets. During a mini-riot in Rathangan, 1 Travveler was arrested and put in the back of the squad car, his mates all came over and took him out of it! The Gards just stood and watched, like lambs. If some students tried that, they would be battered - cowardly by the Gards, IMO.

Go for a spin down the wrong side of the Mallow road for a few miles in your car, and I BET you will get arrested, you will not just get let walk away. How did they arrest that lad on the mixer outside the Dail so?? It was for dangerous driving as far as I recall. COP-out, "shure what could we arrest them for???"

The was no problem catching and arresting the guy who broke into Alan Shatter's not so long ago! If your at the top or bottom of society in Ireland you are sorted the rest of us are only here to pick up the bill.The pikeys in the dail wearing suits are equally as well protected as the pikeys in that video.Back to work folks and pay your taxes.Thats your purpose in life in Ireland. Those boys are not worried about legal fees,household charges etc...

A full investigation is now under way according to this. The link is still doing the rounds on my facebook by people though, eventhough it taken down by the user who seems to have initially put it up here, from the op in this thread.

A video of part of the race, on the main Cork to Mallow road, has been uploaded to YouTube and to a number of other social media websites.

The road is one of the busiest commuter corridors in the country, handling an average of more than 15,000 vehicles per day.

At around 7am last Saturday morning, part of the road was turned into a race track involving two horses pulling distinctive two-wheeled sulky carts and riders.

The dangers were obvious. At one stage, four vehicles lined up across the road. At another, one of a number of following vehicles narrowly missed an on-coming articulated lorry and trailer.

Several cars travelling in the opposite direction to the race had to drive onto the hard shoulder, as other drivers overtook the riders.
Gardaí were contacted and the race was stopped. They say a full investigation is now under way.

Gardaí are appealing to motorists who were on the Cork/Mallow between 7am and 8am last Saturday to contact them.

They say they have identified a number of the people involved and say they are satisfied they are members of the Traveller community

This is getting Garda attention now, because people are talking about it everywhere in the media. It happens every other day of the week unremarked/unreported and nothing is done. Some high-up Cop is going" jasus lads, the meeduh is whinging about this, rattle about a bit and make like you're going to do somthing, don't go too far, ye know, just make it look good for a bit".

i don't think that fella was arrested for dangerous driving though. More likely burglary.

If me and 30 of my family/friends tried doing that down the middle of the main Cork to Limerick road, are you trying to say that none of us would be arrested or face any charges? Of course we would.

I had a guard threaten to take my car off me last week because my NCT cert is out of date since the end of March (6 weeks), even though I have an appointment booked for a few weeks time. I told the guard this, and he wasn't interested, he said that if he sees me on the road again with no NCT cert up on my car then the car will be taken from me.

Fucking bully boy tactics because I was a female on my own in the car. If he stopped a car full of hefty traveller men with a cert that was out of date, he would have told them to drive on because he would have been too afraid of them to do anything

A similar situation happened here not so long ago. Old man had 12 sheep stolen off the hill. He was tipped off as to who had them by another man who had been approached by the thief to buy them.

Off he toddled to the Gardaí, the desk Garda wouldn't go with him, so he asked to see the Sargent on duty, who also refused. Bear in mind, the old man knew where the sheep were and that the thief was with them at that time as they were about to be moved.

He then went to see the Superintendent, who also refused to go! To add insult to injury the Superintendent also warned the old man not to approach the thief as he was "a dangerous man".

Old man proceeded to ask what would happen if he went to the pub, had a few pints then drove off out the road, the answer he got was "That's a different law" :rolleyes:

So he went home, rounded up a couple of his lads, hitched up his trailer, confronted the thief and took back his own sheep.

The Gardaí then impounded a jeep belonging to either the thief or his son the next day. But in all fairness, what fcuking use was that to the man who had his sheep stolen?

It's no wonder the Gardaí have dwindling respect and support through out Ireland.

Maybe they already knew their names? Why would you arrest someone for identification if you know who they are? Are you suggesting that the law should apply differently to these people? Will you pay the subsequent law suit payout? No, you'll come on here giving out about it.

This must be getting a lot of attention /thread closed yesterday on motors and the 9 o'clock news had a guard on saying that the guards did what they could. In fact he stressed the fact.
Only one arrested is an utter disgrace alright. To me, that's not "doing what we can" FFs.
It actually beggars belief.

Similar situation down my way (although I cant vouch for its authenticity). A man and his neighbour come across 3 fellas stealing his sheep. He rings local Gardaí who tell him that there are no cars available so just let the men on their way as he didn't end up losing any sheep. Man says he's holding them here with his shotgun and is more than happy to wait for a car and shoot the men in the legs if they try to leave. Suddenly a few squad cars are available!

As I said I don't know if its true. I know the neighbour involved but haven't spoken to him since. Sheep going missing around the place has declined recently though.

It's not hairsplitting. It's basic law. You can't arrest someone if there is no legal power to arrest them.

I did notice on the 9 o clock news that RTE had edited the video showing the squad car almost running into the horse at the end rather than when it did happen (the beginning for those who are slow). They made the vid look like it had started with the dangerous stuff in the middle and was then stopped by the Gardaí...

I'll bet there are a few embarrassed superiors in AGS tonight.
