To be honest I didnt know I could specify which switches I wanted and its not like Mr Helpful was gonna tell me:D
The default keyboard is cherry so thats what I'll be getting. Thats the middle of the road type isnt it? I'd be happy enough with that:)

The next day I rag back and the guy who answered the phone was very unhelpful and disinterested and ended up charging me £6-7 for delivery. Dont think I;ll be shopping there again

Tell me how it is, I saw that model too. But I like the look of the trigger model more.
I'm also considering getting a DAS Keyboard.

its honestly lovely monitor and i am a pure gamer. i want to get 2 more now for multy monitor setup. for 189eu you just cant go wrong with that monitor. i have my LG monitor side by side with dell and its like day and night difference. you dont even need to be in to computers to see how diffirent they look. my misses spoted difference in less then a second, and she had newer used pc for more then internet or facebook.

According to the part number on Scan, you've ordered the one with Black switches. They're linear switches, meaning they feel the same the whole way down. There's no bump like there is with regular keyboards, or Blue or Brown switches. They're usually best for gaming, rather than typing, but some people like them for typing too.

Yeah I will do. The main reason I got this is I have space constraints so a tenkeyless keyboard suits me alot better. I would go for the one you linked otherwise.

Cherry is just the manufacturer of the switches. They make several varieties which are named after colours.

I've used them, and quite like them. Pretty much the only reason I went for Brown is because of the clicking Blues make. I've been second guessing that all week though; the sound was growing on me towards the end. As I've said before, my Brown keyboard should be here later in the week, so I'll post up thoughts when I've had time to play with it. All I can say for sure at this point is that I'd definitely go Blue/Brown over Red/Black.

ah crap. I just read some of that guide and I also think black would suit me least. I wont be gaming alot on it and the sensitivity levels sound real annoying. hmm.. Im sure its already on its way to me, do you think scan would have cherry-blue keys?:D

or actually, maybe the black keys might suit me better. I much prefer to type on a laptop than a keyboard and I would assume they would take less actuation force than a keyboard. Although this is all poor mans rubber dome keys im talking about

I'm going to email them and ask them. Reading the reviews from the US Amazon has changed my mind, I like that model too. Apparently it has all rubber keys which sounds amazing.

edit: Just saw they stock the trigger model, with a choice of black, blue, brown or red switches.

Its almost 40euro more expensive, so I'm still going to email asking about the brown/blue switches for the quickfire, if they don't do that. I guess I'll go for the trigger model.

I just scanned through some of the amazon us reviews and people said that the cm quickfire uses blue keys. Alot of posts seem to mention it so it seems to be definitely blue switches. The question is whether this is the same model that scan are using. Hopefully:)

It's not, I'm afraid. The version on Amazon is SGK-4000-GKCL1, which according to the Cooler Master UK page is Blue. The one from Scan, however, is SGK-4000-GKCC1, which is listed as Black. (It's also in Scan's specs)

Would you say there is alot of difference in the two? I might email scan and ask do they also stock the blue keys so I can change it when it arrives.

In comparison to each other? They're night and day. You could take the mentality that it's "just a keyboard" etc. but then you wouldn't be looking into a mechanical one, would you? :P

Yeah Im gonna try out the black switches first and if I dont like them I will see if they will exchange it for a blue set. I actually think I might prefer the black switches though as im so used to using a laptop- although you will probably tell me how wrong I am:D

If you mean you're used to a regular keyboard, then Browns are the most similar to regular keys. (Unfortunately) Blacks feel completely different. I'd still take Blacks over a regular keyboard any day, but if I had to pick, it would either be Blues or Browns.

I've emailed scan now asking if they stock either blue, or brown versions of it.
I'll let you know their response

If I'm not mistaken under the EU distance selling directive you can return anything bought on the internet (or any other distance selling method) for a full refund within 7 days of receiving it, even if its just the sound it makes that u don't like. You will have to cover postage and packaging though. I'm on my phone at the minute so I can't add links but try Googling it.

Not a bad price too. Its not out until June 1st, but I don't mind waiting three weeks.

edit #2: Probably should have checked the key switch first, Red seems to be the only available one.
On the US one it is available in brown, so I've emailed them asking if they would order one in brown.

I've ordered like four different places so far today asking about keyswitches. I don't understand why we can't get the same treatment as people in the US.

I've give it time on that CM one. It could be that it's just too new. They say key switches vary by region, so maybe just email CM and ask what switch types they're planning for the UK. (Assuming you don't want to use US layout, of course)

Just another feature. No real reason for it, given that anyone can find WASD keys blind.

yeah, I was thinking that, but it seems a bit pointless. If I want backlighting, I want all the keys lit up for aesthetics, not just the cluster that's hardwired to my brain anyway. In fact, I'd probably leave the lights off if that's all they did

Well the whole keyboard lights up. Selective backlighting just means you can toggle between off, WASD, whatever else, and full.

The keyboard layout doesn't bother me, I'd still know where all the UK keys are meant to go, there is only like four different keys. So I've emailed them asking if they would order a brown one from the US.
