It's funny I don't see the problem with it.

Years ago Liverpool had a different way of doing things and the club stood out among others both on and off the field!

How it handled itself in transfer market all done professionally behind closed doors, no laundry washed in public, no scandals. continuity of management, style of football, fans that were loyal to the team through thick and thin and understood football, a sense of the club, fans and players all being in it together ( e.g. Phil Thompson bringing European Cup to local pub or even reaction to Hillsborough).

It's certainly not romantic rubbish, and something I felt when I was a younger supporter of Liverpool.

Nothing embarrassing about it at all , it made the club stand out and other clubs jealous!

William Gaillard, a senior official at UEFA’s has warned MPs that Liverpool Football Club came within hours of entering into administration. He told a parliamentary inquiry into the governance of English football that Liverpool was an example of why financial fair play rules have to be brought into the game.

Gaillard said: “We’ve seen more than 80 clubs in Europe in 10 years going into administration.”

It is understood Liverpool Football Club come perilously close to going into administration after Tom Hicks and George Gillett loaded it with debt, before the club was taken over by American firm New England Sports Ventures (NESV) Company.

Mmm, depends what you mean by set up!

Happy enough with structures and ownership etc.

Biggest problem has been league form this season which has meant that our league season was effectively over since March and yesterday's game doesn't really matter any more.

What's important now is that we win the FA Cup and then reflect and regroup in the summer and make right decisions about management, squad and future direction!

There always would have been a buyer for us, putting us in the same bracket as pompey is laughable tbh. Im not sayinh that everything was rosy and what happened to us wasnt a disgrace but to say we were on the verge of ceasing to exist is wrong.

Going into this season we could only realistically win 2 trophy's,we have 1 in the bag and are 90 min away from the other.The league forum is depression alright but who remembers the 2001 season for coming 4th..?not many,everybody remembers it for the trophy's.If we came 4th some would still criticized us for not having a run at the title.

Getting beaten at home by West Brom matters a lot. Its the same type of result weve been seeing all season home and away, you cant just say it mattered earlier in the league but doesnt matter at this stage. All of a sudden the league doesnt matter becase of the CC and FA cup. Id give them both up for 4th spot.

So some in here are saying that our financial situation a couple of years ago was not as bad as was made out,and using that to justify the lack of action from the boo boys.

The same people are now on here and other forums asking for kennys head a couple of weeks before a couple final.They have no prob with this.Let me ask those lads,what would have been worse for LFC's reputation.

1)Going into administration and eventually finding a buyer...?

2)Coming maybe 8th in the PL and having 1 possibly 2 trophy's..?

I fear the folk that are upset with this seasons league position and not getting top four in the first season of new ownership and team rebuild are in for a shock over the next couple of seasons .

Unless UFFP is fully implemented then I could see the league having the same three or four top finishers for years to come, and Mr Henry flipping the club faster than planned .

For me it doesn't really matter at this stage of the season as we've nothing to more to play for in the league.

That does not mean that the league doesn't matter, but the remaining league games are nowhere near as important now at this stage as the FA cup final is.

Questions of course have to be asked about what happened this season with form and new signings but I still don't believe that the setup of the club is that far away from being competitive.

Newcastle are there or thereabouts with a new bunch of players and relatively new manager Arsenal Chelsea and Spurs have had some terrible runs this season and yet we're still miles nowhere near them. The standard this year has been poor and yet we still cant get a sniff.

In two weeks I'm bringing my 10 year old to Wembley. This is his first cup final, and if we win it will be a day he never forgets.

My mate supports spurs, and I guarantee that he won't be reminising with his son in 10 years about the time spurs finished 4th.

Yes the league form is sh/t, but I've seen enough to suggest if we have a good summer, then the issues we have can be rectified. is kenny the man to sort it, I'm not sure, but I'm willing to give him my faith for another season if I have to.

I can't believe there are actually people who prefer the domestic cups to Champions League football.

The longer you're out of the CL, the harder it is to get back in it. When you're in the CL, you have significantly more money for both transfer fees and wages and you attract better players. When you get better players, your team improves and evolves quicker. When that happens, you are more likely to win things, including domestic cups (which are the least important trophies, by a distance)

Getting to two cup finals this season would be great for Liverpool. But it's nothing more than an anomaly this season as usually the CL clubs (with better players obviously!) win those trophies. History shows that.

The league needs to be the priority. Improving in that and working towards the CL places is the only way the club is going to move forward. The domestic cups are great and will leave lasting memories but in reality they mean sweet FA in comparison to getting, and staying in the CL.

We're not 4th either though, that was my point. People can up with a thousand and one hypothetical to justify their position.

As Sir Gallagher points out, Newcastle prove the rest of your post isn't quite right. I think they highlight what you can do when you buy decent players and hope it is possible to do on a relatively small budget, our big problem is Kenny has shown so far he can't do either of these things.

Our aim should be to win premier league titles and European cups. I'd be sick if a manager scarificied our league form to concentrate on the FA cup or league cup.

I agree to an extent, and again maybe I have a romantic view, but winning breathes success.
Newcastle have been out of the CL for a long time yet are on the cusp of qualification but maybe they are an exception to the rule.

I honestly believe that if for example Utd failed to qualify that they would still be able to attract players and I think we are the same. However I will qualify that by saying that we only have a small bit of a window left to use our history and name to attract players.

I'm sorry but you're not addressing Blatter's main point that winning domestic cups does not bring the team forward in the same way that CL qualification does.

We will challenge for more trophies (domestic cups included) in the next 10 years if we qualify for the Champions League. Why? Well read Blatter's post again. More money, stature = better players. Better players = progression and (hopefully) consistent trophy hauls.

I'm delighted we're in the cup final too, and I hope you enjoy the day out with your son. This one really means something, every team goes out to win it. But it won't do as much to bring the club forward in the long term.

I don't want to be winning domestic cups or Europa League's, I want to (eventually) be challenging for the Champions League and Premiership, where the real top teams are.

Getting back in the top 4 will give your son a lot more memories in the future than a couple of cup wins.

Every year we are out of the Champions League we become less and less attractive to players. The 07 final, the 09 crushing of Madrid fade more into the background and we start to be seen as a mid-table team, not a CL team.

If United dropped out of the CL places next year it probably wouldn't hurt them too much the following year. If they failed to get back in for 5 years running after that then it would hurt them a lot.
