Incredible ball from Suso, perfectly weighted and good finish from Ecclestone to boot. Read he missed a couple good chances before the goal though. I hope Kenny gives Suso a chance before the end of the league

He's tiny as well. His physical weakness would be exposed quite easily.

I've been saying for weeks that Sterling and Suso should be getting a bit of game time and certainly squad time but with the FA Cup is still on the horizon I guess they will be shut out in favour of more senior players. Pity if that's the case.

I always thought he looked very good for us when taking his age into account. Similar to Lucas he just broke throw at a poor time, and I think it's one reason why Kenny(and nearly every other manager in the world) are reluctant with giving young lads a go.

He's been in fantastic form for Sporting this season. Has come on so much since I last saw him in a Liverpool jersey. His defending has certainly improved, he doesn't get suckered by a turn of pace as easily before, seems to have added a bit more pace to his game but is still the bricksh!thouse he always was. His attacking is still one of his best traits, a quality crosser of the ball and has added goals to his repertoire.

Was never given a fair crack of the whip at Anfield due to the pressure of being thrust into being a full time first team player. If he was back up for the season rather than being our only fit LB as it turned out, then he'd most certainly still be at Liverpool.

It is a point of fact that Hodgson spent 4.5mil on Konchesky the same day that Insua went to the Turks.

Hodgson wanted to keep Insua? really?. If someone said that to my face id say they were insulting my intelligence. He wanted/had to give Insua's wages to Konchesky, thats where it starts and ends, that was the state of the clubs finances at the time. Aurelio was hired back on pittance, the man couldnt even find a club after he was let go.

Just to add, Insua was mismanged by Benitez and his staff. Was a cracking little player at 17 in the u20 world cup for the Argies. He clearly had been given too much weight training, he lost speed and flexibility. He was then asked to do too much too soon, folk forget he never played senior football before joining us. Played a handful of games over 2 seasons and then asked to play a full season. What happened to Insua then would be like asking Flanagan to play 30+ games for us now and expect to get top 4, not a fair ask.

Rafa spent 7 mil on Dossena, a very poor buy. Turned out to be worse than the 2 left backs we already had.

I think he's saying the mismanagement was in his training and weights schedule rather than in having to play him out of necessity.
We all know it wasn't ideal to play him and that we simply had no other option.
Personally I felt he did reasonably ok during that season, tailed off a bit towards the end but you could even say the same about Enrique this year. Think he still finished that year on 6 or 7 assists for us and that cracker of a goal v Arsenal as well.

Was very sorry to see him leave tbh.

He's obviously not bad, just didn't work out for us.

He was awful for us, truly awful. I've never seen a worse crosser of the ball from an attacking full back. Wasn't a great defender either

He looked a tad on the overweight side for us as well.

As Rigger says, he must be doing alright at Napoli to be consistently starting, and I've seen him involved in a few of their goals. He looks to have improved, or found a club/system that suits him better.

But jesus he was a massive downgrade on Risse at the time

Benitez did also buy Johnson, Agger and Skrtel which make up three quarters of one of the best defenses in the premiership!

I see theres also a Daniel Cleary playing for the Republic, is he one of the current Liverpool under 16s? I wonder is he Irish born?

Napoli played with 3 center backs and two wing backs with Gargano holding the middle for most of last year. Defensively Dossena didn't have anywhere near the same responsibility as he did for us, plus, the less physical side of Seria A suits him I'd say.

He actually got forward well enough in the few games I saw of him last year and provided a decent supply to the forwards.
Don't really know how he's been doing this year, not enough time to watch as many games as before.

Yeah Daniel is also one of ours. I remember Jayob saying O'Hanlon will make a huge amount of money for St.Kevin’s if he's successful. In fairness it seems to be a key part of our transfer policy as the likes of Sterling, Smith, Suso, Nacho, Ojo and Sinclair off the top of my head will all end up costing us close to seven figures if they make the first team on a regular basis.

As a wing back in a 3-5-2 formation or something along those lines, he's alright. He was good playing in this formation for Udinese too.

As for Insua,, I've said my piece in the past here so I'm not bothered about repeating myself entire but to say it saddens me seeing his progression since leaving us. The lad is considered one of their players of the season by fans and media over there, he kept Hulk very quiet when Sporting played Porto earlier on this year.

Still stand by the fact that he was excellent in the 08/09 season when he had to play a few games and was one of our best players, from that season onwards he was clearly mismanaged by the club.
