Martinez also seems like someone he will have learnt loads from working under. He has been excellent as part of a two in recent games but I think he would excel as part of the two with Lucas in a 4-2-3-1. The fact the kid seems to have a great head on his shoulders turning down big money moves in the past including ourselves makes me like him even more. That said I think he will cost a fortune which begs the question of surely we can maybe find better value elsewhere? Why is Sigurdsson even being compared to McCarthy? Doesn't he play in the attacking midfielder/hole role most of the time? I don't recall ever having seen him play in the centre for Swansea. Opr

We could definitely find better value somewhere else. He's not the kind of player you would look at and say he's going to improve our squad to take us to the Top 4. I think we do need to sign one midfielder in the summer which is why I suggested Sigurdsson. He play's just ahead of Britton and Allen for Swasnea as part of a midfield three. I'd see him as an upgrade on Adam. Maybe there are better options out there, but I would prefer him to McCarthy anyway.

A complete absence of midfielders who can play in the centre since Lucas got injured. We need someone to play alongside Lucas and cover for him in the centre should we need. That's why James McCarthy name was mentioned. You then interjected some meaningless stats with regards goals/assists for a CM (Xabi says hi). Then you decided Sigurdsson was the better option despite him playing in a different position which isn't really a priority considering we have Gerrard with Shelvey as cover. Opr

It's a role in which Trappatoni tried him for Ireland. Just off the main striker. I think McCarthy wouldn't be near good enough to fill in for Lucas in a defensive midfield role. It would be disastrous to play Gerrard and McCarthy in a midfield two, as it would with Adam. Defensively, he isn't much better than Spearing but he is a far better player technically and on the ball. He is a good player IMO with potential but I don't think he would be much of an improvement on what is already in the squad.

Regarding the champions league spots, tactically speaking, who would it be best from our point of view to get them or in which order would you rank what would be best to worst from our point of view.... Does it make much of a difference, is it better if Chelsea or Arsenal don't get there or better than new teams don't? Between Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs... Is it much of a muchness?

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll believes he has spent too much time on the substitutes' bench since his big-money move to Anfield. The 23-year-old England international has started the past two games against Blackburn and Everton and scored the winner in both to go some way towards repaying his hefty £35million price tag. But he has come off the bench in 14 of his 31 league appearances this season and feels he needs to be starting if he is to score more goals. "I am confident in myself that, if I am playing games, I will score goals and put myself about," he told various newspapers. "I cannot really do that if I am on the bench and coming on in the last 10 minutes of games. What I want is to start games and put myself about like I know I can. When I haven't been playing, you get low on confidence." Carroll also claimed the days of his party lifestyle off the pitch were behind him since moving to Liverpool. Last September former England boss Fabio Capello infamously warned Carroll that he needed to "drink less", with the striker now admitting he prefers to stay in with his girlfriend. "My past is my past. I changed my lifestyle when I came to Liverpool and settled down. I love it here," he said. "People will say to me 'Oh, you were in the boozer last week' but it is just rumours going round. "Now I just laugh it off. To be honest, I don't go out at all. All I do now is sit in the house with my girlfriend, chill out and watch movies."

I've been very impressed with his all round play these last few weeks and he is almost unplayable in the air. 15-20 goals would be a realistic return for him next season if he plays most of our games.
DIRK KUYT has admitted he was disappointed not to feature as Liverpool FC clinched their place in the FA Cup final, but says he will strive to prove his worth ahead of next month’s Wembley showdown with Chelsea. The Dutch forward, so often the Reds’ go-to man on the big stage, was an unused substitute as Kenny Dalglish’s side defeated Everton 2-1 in front of more than 87,000 spectators on Saturday, with Dalglish preferring to use Craig Bellamy and Maxi Rodriguez as his side chased a winning goal late on. It has been something of a frustrating campaign for Kuyt. Having topped the Reds’ scoring charts last season, he has managed just five goals this term, even hinting, via his agent, recently that he may be forced to consider his Anfield future should he fail to force his way into Dalglish’s picture. Nonetheless, the 31-year-old says he is determined to play his part, if called upon, in his third major final for the club, having scored in his previous two – the 2007 Champions League defeat to AC Milan, and the Carling Cup triumph over Cardiff City earlier this year. Kuyt said: “I am proud that, after the Champions League final and the final of the Carling Cup, for the third time I am with Liverpool in a final. “But it is a disappointment that I did not play (against Everton). I expected to come on, and if that happens, you hope to be the first to come on. But that was not to be. “There have been some important moments for me in the FA Cup, such as my goal against Manchester United (in round four). I will do everything to ensure that in the third final I prove my worth with a goal.”
