I've only found this to be a fairly regular occurrence in the last 12-18 months or so. What is the logic and why does it seem to be a night time (after vast majority are in bed) exercise only? Is it definitely a Garda helicopter?

Also, yes I would assume it is the Garda helicopter, as special permission has to be granted for a helicopter to fly over residential areas at night, I believe.
