Micheal Martin :

"This afternoon I accepted the resignation of my colleague Éamon Ó Cuív TD from the roles of Fianna Fáil Deputy Leader and Spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.

Éamon's refusal to support the Parliamentary Party's position on the Fiscal Compact meant that it was no longer feasible for him to occupy these roles.

As the Party prepares for a momentous Ard Fheis this weekend, it is my hope that Éamon will continue to work for Fianna Fáil's renewal as he has done over the last twelve months. Our Party has led Ireland's positive and constructive engagement with Europe for generations and I am determined that it continues in this proud tradition."

Fianna Fail plus principles you gotta be kidding me unless you are referring to
Principal as in the total amount borrowed and not paid back but instead bailed out by the state.

I suppose other such FF cretins such as Michael Healy Rae and Mattie McGrath have principles too? There will soon be more Fianna Fail TD's as "independent's" like the bagman than there is as official party td's.

I just heard his interview on Today FM. He was talking about how he intends to stay in Fianna Fail because it's important for him to represent the ordinary voters who support him.

In his reply, he explained how the litriú simplí came about, because the “cónaighe” and all such forms which would be familiar to people at the beginning of the 20th century were causing chaos to learners. It was difficult to know how to pronounce a word such as “cónaighe” if one did not know the language. In his defence, my father pointed out how this came about, but also pointed out something more interesting. He noted that in the Annals of Inishfallen in 1259 there was a reference to “Corc mac Fínguni í Kymh d’éc Bennact era anmin”, but the spelling for “Caoimh” was “Kymh”. Some people who want me to go back to the older version think it is “Caoimh”, but I am thinking of reverting to “Kymh”.

Well he changed it in the 2002 election to Cuív, Eamon Ó to be at the top of the ballot

Somebody read The Phoenix about ten years ago.... It still doesn't negate the fact that Ó Cuív is his correct name, because that is his birth name and, as he demonstrated in his 2005 remark, it's a defensible version.
