Thursday 12th January 2012 - 2 Notices:

1) Tender: N8-N25 Dunkettle Interchange Preliminary Ground Investigation Contract (NRA);

2) Tender: Rehabilitation of Bridges in Cork County 2012 (Cork County Council).

#1 - Doesn't look as if the Dunkettle Interchange Project is canned - the M7 Upgrade from J9 (Maudlins) to J11 (M9 Split) doesn't look so either according to this! However, they may still be only advancing to the end of their planning stages.

New Press Release from the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport today, concerning the minor works that are due for construction this year (I think some have started already) and those currently in the planning phase. The list of the major schemes for 2012 has also been included.

1) Prior Info: N15 Blackburn Bridge Phase 1 (Donegal CC);

2) Award (20/10/2011): Supply and Delivery of a Tipper Truck for Road Maintenance and Winter Maintenance (Limerick City Council);

3) Prior Info: N56 Coolboy to Kilmacrenan (Donegal CC);

4) Tender: N15 Blackburn Bridge (Phase 1) & N56 Coolboy to Kilmacrenan (Donegal CC);

5) Contract Notice: Framework Agreement for Road Restoration, Road Resurfacing and Ancillary Works 2012 (Cork County Council).

#1 - On an interesting note, this scheme is on the 2012 planning (not construction start) list (PDF - 524KB) for minor schemes on national routes. The scheme is by no means tiny either - 2.4km of Type 1 Single C/W with one bridge structure (somewhere between Donegal Town and Ballybofey). More info (N15) on the Donegal CC website - word of warning - the 'doc' links are actually PDFs!

#2 - This scheme is also on the 2012 planning (not construction start) list (PDF - 524KB) for minor schemes on national routes. The scheme consists of 3.0km Type 2 Single C/W (as per Part 8 document). More info (N56) on the Donegal CC website - word of warning - the 'doc' links are actually PDFs! In anyone is interested in the 2012 construction start list for minor schemes on national routes, please follow this link (PDF - 500KB).

#4 - This notice appears to be about land valuation services for both the N15 and N56 schemes mentioned above. However, the notice (abstract) also seems to state that should all go to plan, construction on the N15 scheme is scheduled for May 2012 while the corresponding date for the N56 scheme is June 2012. Rather strange I must say, given that both schemes are only on the planning list for 2012.

From your very opening post here - this has been funded with 26m for 2012, think its not started yet. Its a massive scheme for a council to be doing these days.

...especially when 8.9km of that will be Type 1 Single (7.3m C/W with 2 x 2.5m H/S). This would be a big NRA scheme these days, let alone county schemes. I never thought it would see the light of day in a recession. There's to be a roundabout junction with the existing R402 South of Carbury - however, I don't think there's any grade separation with other roads planned in the scheme.

MINISTER KELLY ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR ROAD SCHEME

Local Minister Alan Kelly has announced that the long awaited Congar/Ballyluskey re-alignment is to take place in 2012. The 2.2 kilometre stretch of road is listed in the 2012 Minor Works Scheme plan.

“This project has been on the list for schemes to be competed in 2012. These minor works schemes are aimed at removing bad bends and/or improving particularly hazardous local conditions and as every local knows this is certainly the case with this particular stretch of road. It is an extremely popular stretch of road that carries a very heavy volume of traffic” stated the Minister.

“This is a project that I have been working on for some time and I have approached the Minister about the road a number of times. I am delighted that the funding has finally been put in place to progress this project”, concluded Minister Kelly

Creating staggered junction on Ballylanders to Glen of Aherlow road where the road meets the R662..this is under construction as I'v passed it several times and the red on the below image is it.

I didn't see any active tender notices for the above scheme, but it probably won't be long till something regarding same appears on etenders. I did search for more details (scheme layout etc) on the scheme, but couldn't find what I was looking for. Wonder what the road type will be - probably a Type 2 Single I'd say (8m pavement) - that should become apparent on any upcoming tender notice.

That's only been needed for.... thirty years? They appeared to be avoiding it due to the planned bypass. Which didn't get planning permission.

That can't be right - it says 2.2 km scheme length (for the N52 scheme in Tipperary), but in the image it's only a tiny deviation?

If you are referring to my post then the image I put up is not of the N52, Its of works by the R622 where it meats a Local road.

Wednesday 25th January 2012 - 1 Notice:

1) Tender: N22 Macroom Footbridge (Cork County Council).

#1 - The abstract is not totally clear, but what I understand is that a parallel footbridge is to be constructed to allow for road widening (and conflict elimination) on the existing bridge. Can anyone confirm this?

Friday 27th January 2012 - 3 Notices:

1) Tender: Loughrea Electoral Area Non National Overlays 2012 Contract No 1 (Galway County Council);

2) Tender: Coonagh-Knockalisheen Distributor Road- Ground Investigation Contract No.2 (Limerick City Council);

3) Tender: Ground Reinforced Grass Car Park at Malahide Castle, Malahide, Co Dublin (Fingal County Council).

#2 - More info on this here - will eventually from part of the Limerick Northern Distributer Road (LNDR). There's also a PDF Document (774KB) showing the Preferred Route for the LNDR Phase 2.

#3 - Was in the makeshift overflow carpark in Newbridge Demesne across the estuary a couple of years back and it was a mess (the park is otherwise very good!) - hopefully, the reinforcing to the grass carpark at Malahide Demesne will be a big improvement. Ironically, the reinforced grass road leading to the overflow carpark at Newbridge Demesne seems to work fairly well - why they didn't do it to at least part of the carpark there is another story.

Is there a start date for Phase I, granted p.p. back in September?

I don't think there's any specific start date, but my guess is that the €2m granted this year will be for ground investigation and archeological purposes as well as preparing the tender documents. My guess is that construction will start in 2013 if all goes to plan - but that's only a guess.

#2 - That's 2.5km of Type 2 Single and 1.0km of Type 1 Single overlay - I can't get my hands on a route plan.

#3 - That's the death knell for 2 more of Galway's roundabouts - I presume the Bodkin Roundabout is next for the gallows.

1) Contract Notice: Cobh Landslides Project: Phase 2 (Cork County Council);

2) Tender: Tender for grasscutting/ hedgecutting on National Primary & Secondary Routes & City Environs 2012 (Limerick County Council);

3) Tender: Tender for Grasscutting/Hedgecutting/Cleaning & Weedkilling on Motorway & Dual Carriageway 2012 (Limerick County Council).

Very much run of the mill stuff today. In relation to #1 however, I remember the presence of extensive retaining walls and steep embankments along the main road into Cobh (near the train station). I wonder if same are to be included in the proposed works.

Friday 3rd February 2012 - 2 Notices:

1) Tender: 3 trailer mounted lane closure signs (Clare County Council);

2) Contract Notice: The design of a replacement road bridge at Mullantieboyle, Glenties Co. Donegal (Donegal County Council).

#1 - Maybe Clare County Council intend to carry out some major work on their minor roads.

#2 - The current 16m long bridge is described as critically damaged - flood waters maybe?
