Hi all,
Im newly engaged and looking for opinions or pictures on weddings/events in the Anglers Rest. Website looks fab and have booked a site visit, it would be nice to hear views good or bad?

Hi OP! First of all congrats on your engagement:D

Ive been to a few events at the anglers and the whole style of the place is exactly what I would love to have at my own wedding but its far to small for my giant family:(
The food and service any time Ive ever been there are always amazing and Im sure once the place is set up for a wedding it will be amazing!

I think i have looked at the pictures at least 100 times on their website dying to get up and have a proper look around the place!

My job has me in different places day time so I eat out a lot so am quite critical of food. I worked near there last year and ate there several times for midweek lunch.

Nice place, nice staff, but found the food was nice but only average for the extremely high price they charged for it. I tried several items and found this with all of it.

No comment to make on any wedding package they may offer though.

It's a lovely spot, defo different from the norm. The bar / restaurant is lovely and the venue upstairs is probably even better. We were thinking of booking it for ours but the main thing that put us off was the toilets....they're not in great shape, upstairs or downstairs. We've eaten there quite a lot and have always found the food to be good. I was at the afters of a wedding there too and found the band to be in an awkward place, kinda in the way. These are perhaps only minor issues, apart from this its a lovely place.

As a wedding dj whohas worked with some bands there it is an awkward setup but the guests dont seem to mind and it is decorated lovely. I agree with Clint about the restaurant food. I live local enough and its not a patch on the hole in the wall on the other side of the park.

I was at an event there recently (big party, similar to wedding).
Lovely food, excellent staff - you'll probably deal with Mary, she's very nice and very efficient.
Personally I couldn't fault how they looked after our big group.

Toilets are fine imo.....pretty much in line with the shabby chic feel of the venue.

If I was getting married again I'd love this place

To the OP,

I have played in the Anglers Rest quite a few times at both weddings and functions. I reckon I have played about 70% of available venues in Ireland throughout the last five years, and I find the Anglers Rest to be somewhat more homely than any other.

I don't think it is fair to any venue to take criticism from walk in off the street punters, with no direspect to the posters above, as functions re a completely different animal. I am not belittling the fact that you may have had issues with the food, or whatever service you came across, I am just saying that there is not one venue in the country that is not above such type of comment.

Personally speaking, I find one of the worst meals I ever ate was in one of Ireland's Michelan Star restaurants- but that opinion stays there as it is personal. No one can please all of the people all of the time.

I am not affiliated with the venue, but whilst I enjoy benefits it offers in terms of third party business, I can say the same for most venues around the country.

I would personally recommend the venue hands down, and especially in the current climate. It seems it is more on the pulse of what the wedding market needs at the moment, the two most important imho being budget conscious and flexible.

That's my two pence worth. Hope it helps.

i love the hole in the wall, i really wish they done weddings

we are going with the anglers rest, i love the feel of the place.

was up with mary on monday just finalising everything, she gave us some great ideas and a good few money saving tips.

i cant fault the place so far ...........so hopefully it will be fine on the day.

this was the only venue we looked at and it is perfect for us

indeed, i spend too much money in the hole in the wall.

I've only eaten in the angler's restaurant once so i'm sure the wedding food is great. have a great day!

I was at a wedding here about 2 years ago. It was a fantastic venue and the food was great. The room was set up beautifully. It was the day before NYE when the bad weather and snow hit us but the weather and venue worked quite well - very atmospheric. Overall great night and I know the bride and groom were delighted with their day. It was one of venues we considered but numbers meant we had to go with a bigger venue.

We looked at the Anglers Rest but it couldn't handle our numbers. Anyone know of a similar style venue that could handle up to 150?

youd want to cut more then the cousins if you wanted to get 100+ into beaufield.

youre kind of struggling really to get that homely feel for that amount of people, the threshold figure of 100 I would have said was it for "homeliness", after that its banquet hall stuff.

Trying to think, station house in kilmessan has that snug feel about it and might get 140-150 at a squeeze.

Most of the places we really like are obscenely expensive (village at Lyons etc.)

yes, they certainly would be. there or ballymagarvey are in teh same bracket but I wasnt mad about ballymagarvey the times Ive been there, but I was working so attending might be different.

If you wanted to go older, the hotel in killiney (court?) isnt bad. Its oldish and would easily seat 150. Dont think its the upper end. Maybe barberstown but I think thats expensive too and another place I dont think justifies its price.

Youre going way into the country after that.

Any experience of the Riverside in Enniscorthy? Not at all the homely feel from the look of the pics but exceptionally good value!

yes, played there a few times, youre right, not that "homely" feel but great hotel to have a wedding in. My Brother in law booked his wedding there only last month for 2013, they were on a tight budget for 160 people and said there wasnt another hotel in the country in its class (ie, not a wreck) doing what they did for the money.

I'd recommend it.

actually, now that you mention wexford, my cousin had his reception in the heritage centre, which was lovely.

there is no bar, so you have to supply the alcohol and people can bring their own spirits.

everyone stayed in the maldron, which is really close
