Eddie Hobbs/Dan Hobbs

Hi all,

Hoping to draw on somebody's local knowledge in relation to Cork city.

My question is that there was formerly a shop at 57 Patrick Street, Cork called Dan Hobbs, Gents outfitters (it's currently occupied by Supersavers).
Does anyone know anything about this shop, remember it in any way or (outside chance I know) have a picture of it?

And second question is there any connection between Dan Hobbs and the celebrity economist Eddie Hobbs?

Hobbs Gents Outfitters. Were into business type of clothing, suits etc, not so much on the casual end of things. Nice stuff though.

This is for Hesh's umpire..or indeed for anyone related to or knew Dan Hobbs.

You were looking for a photo of Dan Hobbs shop in Cork, well here is one I'll bet you didn't know existed...

My name is Paul & I'm from Malahide/Dublin. I was looking online today for old photo's of JFK's motorcade through Dublin in '63 for a friend of mine who rode motorcycle beside JFK, and in doing so I found this picture. The problem was that I didn't recognize the Dublin street he was supposed to be on.
After looking at the photo in detail I saw a shop on the right named Dan Hobbs.
So still not knowing where in Dublin this shop might have been I did a search for Dan Hobbs shop and found this Boards thread...it turns out that it wasn't Dublin at all but Cork.
So I needed to double-check the photo in case I was wrong, I went into google maps for Patrick St in Cork and lo & behold the surrounding buildings in maps matched the photo perfectly.
View this photo at full resolution or simply magnify it, as you do you can clearly see Dan Hobbs shop on the right with people in the window above looking out at JFK...You will notice a man standing in the doorway of Dan Hobbs shop, could this be Dan Hobbs himself...??

I suspect that there are not many elderly Cork folk on Boards as the late Danny Hobbs was a household name many years ago. he was a great comedian and appeared regularly in the old Cork Opera house. I never saw him as i only came to cork in the fifties but at that time everyone spoke of Danny Hobbs

If you are walking around the Lough, at the Lough church end there is a seat dedicated if that is the word to the memory of Danny Hobbs
