Sources of real time data in Ireland?

Hi all,

Im doing my final year project and I've been assigned a project title of 'system monitoring application'

Basically on the client side it needs to display a list of statistical data using graphs and messages and the server side needs to process and store. It also needs to fetch the data but I don't know of any good sources.

Opendata.ie is a great place for data but not in realtime.
Met.ie was the obvious choice but theres already a weather forecast app in the college so i cant use it.

Just so were clear, I'm aware that this is a boring and uninteresting project. Thats why I'm here, I'm hoping if i find some interesting real time data I might be able to jazz it up a bit.

Stock exchange is boring but at least it will allow for multiple types of demoable graphs.

Rte gives me an idea for a magazine style application. read it like a print with different parts being updated. Rtes feeds are plentiful but id need to focus them.

Nra was one i thought of earlier. I was hoping id be able to display traffic information in a Sim like environment. i might be able to do something with that.

Doesn't have to be specific to Ireland by the way

Also,
geckoboard : http://www.geckoboard.com/ should give you some inspiration.
If I was doing the project, I would do something like geckoboard, A platform / framework to plug in a monitor for pretty much anything, rather then focus on
a single data feed.
I don't know if that's outside the scope of your project though.

Its very big. Its real time. Its a topical and current area of research.

You could use the streaming API:
https://dev.twitter.com/docs/streaming-api

If you want, filter it to a location, or set of keywords of interest.

Apologies if you didnt know what I mean. perhaps 'unclear' would have been a better descriptive than 'boring'. It just sounded like an absolute mess of a project from the original spec. Although your twitter api did give me a great idea for a centralized social network app. More visual than the ones out there though. Something like LiveIO
