Have you ever bought a concert ticket outside the venue?

I mean like on the day or the weekend of the gig.

I've seen some people standing outside the O2 on days of gigs trying to sell tickets, but that was for gigs I went to and had already bought a ticket in general sale.

Unfortunately I was never in that lucky position for a sold out gig.

No and I wouldnt. My dad has done security at some of these events and he said the amount of people being conned with tickets is unbelievable. Some have even bought the receipt stub (ticketmaster type) thinking it was a ticket! :eek::rolleyes:

Got one for u2 360 outside Croker just as it was about to start for almost face value after a mix up with my own tickets. Was a good seat too so you can get lucky.

one of my friends was going to see the pogues at new years a few years back and lost his ticket on the way to the o2. he tried looking or one for sale but before he had the chance to buy one, he was given one by party boy from jackass.

No not me but have a story none the less. Was in Barcelona going to see them play in their first match of the champions league around 2 years ago. Was walking along and at the corner of my eye caught two guys squaring up to each other. Being a man and wondering what this was about we stayed and watched to see what would happen. Found out that the guy bought a ticket off a tout and it was a fake.

The guy realised this and the two got in a bit off a scuffle. The guy who bought the ticket took off his belt, wrapped it around his knuckles and proceeded to beat the crap out of this tout. His tout mate jumped in, the ticket buyers mates jumped in and an all out brawl happened. Eventually the ticket buyer won the the tout and his mates ran away. Did not get his money back though.

Moral of the story. Dont take off your belt and wrap it around your knuckles during a fight because your jeans will fall down and reveal to all your mate that you wear a thong :eek:

Good match though but missed first ten minutes due to this. Still got to see Messi score.

I paid 80 quid for a ticket to a gig last september from the official ticket sellers online. My mates showed up at the gig with no tickets and got one each for 50 euro a piece, 30 euros less than the legitimate sellers and they got in no hassle. Pretty annoying!

I was in Perth, near where a Tommy Tiernan gig was on. Chanced my arm and went to ask for a ticket at the box office. The girl ahead of me was asking could she sell a ticket back, as a friend couldn't make it. She wasn't allowed, so i helped her out.

only twice. Once for a smashing pumpkins gig in 1996 and paid about 20 quid over the amount. the other for Tony Bennet and got it for half price from this lady who couldnt go so ended up beside her parents.

Got a ticket outside wembley for the united v tottenham carling cup final in 2009. When I firts got there I was offered the cheapest seats for £500. This was more than 10 times face value.

I hung around until a 3pm (kick off) and got an £85 ticket for £110. The guy wanted £150 but I told him he'd be better off getting £110 from me than nothing at all. I have to say though, I was nervous on the way up the towards security in case it was a fake ticket. Luckily it wasn't and I had unbelievable an unbelievable seat.

I also got two tickets for one of snow patrol's 'reworked ' tour dates in the waterfront in Belfast. Bought it off a girl online, the night before the concert for face value. The snow patrol website allows fans to advertise them on their site so people don't have to pay inflated prices.

Happens far more than one would think. I have to deal with at least 20 of these people ever year at Oxegen.

A little advice if you are gonna buy off a tout, which I advise against in the first place. Bring the tout up to the gate, have the ticket scanned, hand him the money and enter. Don't just take them at their word, given the prevalence of online selling there are a lot of "refund" tickets out there that people sell because they look like the real deal, which essentially they are, but they are just struck off the record.

If selling or buying online, never show the bar code, always cover it before uploading a picture to prove you are holding the tix. And never ever buy tickets which have a picture of their barcode online.

If you buy a dud and you get told it's already been used or similar, then just leave, don't try to argue with the scanner, they know what to do for each error code and already used is an instant refusal.

Tickets were genuine, but the concert was cancelled last minute :mad: and all ticket sales purchased by credit card - which the girl had done, were refunded directly to her credit card, I phoned her up to explain, she hung up and then changed her phone number keeping the money.

I haven't had any luck on Toutless. I was trying to sell 2 tickets for a sold out gig last year and one guy agreed to buy them at face value. Met him in Dublin on the day of the gig, where he refused to pay face value, telling me that I wouldn't get any more than what he offered.
Ended up giving them away to a cousin for free.

But I heard a happy story for the all Ireland, my brother went to see could he tout a ticket, he was willing to pay up to 500.

But he met a guy whose father was ill that morning and couldn't go to the match, so he sold the ticket to my brother at face value only and wouldn't take anything more.:eek:

I have both bought and sold, but never for more than actual price. Bought when going with friends and didn't have a ticket, sold friends tickets when they had to pull out at the last minute. Never any issues, but people are more honest here plus the gigs I go to wouldn't be a big draw for the touts.

Never for a gig but a few times for matches. Have to say though, some touts can be right cheeky ****ers and after arguing with one over the value of a ticket I don't think I'd be bothered dealing with one again in the future.

I remember going to a Vasco Rossi concert at Perugia's football stadium in the summer of 2004.

I was in Perugia, slap bang in the middle of Italy, between 4th June 2004 and 14th August 2004 and I celebrated my 23rd birthday there (I also watched Euro2004 when I was there and was disappointed when the best team and top scorers at the tournament - England - didn't win it like they should have done).

One day Jessica Giannone, the beautiful young Anglophile Italian girl I had the fortune of staying with, told me that Giovanni Rossi was performing at the Stadio Renato Curi, Perugia FC's football ground which can be seen from the veranda, the bedroom window and the kitchen window of Jessica's house.

Jessica wanted her and me to go and see him perform.

I'd never heard of this guy before but he's huge in Italy and elsewhere in Europe and I said: "Yeah, alright."

So, that night, we walked down there despite having no tickets. But we noticed loads of people just flooding through the stadium's entrances so we thought we'd try and get in with no ticket and we just intermingled outselves with that unruly crowd.

And we did. We just walked in. But once up in the stands we could find no seats available so we had to stand on the stairs in the stands between the rows of seats. The whole flight of steps we were on were filled with people. But the problem was that the people on the stairs behind and higher up than us often seemed to be trying to move forwards down the stairs and they were pushing those in front and lower down than them on the stairs - including us - forwards. So sometimes I had to push backwards with all my might to stop all the numpties behind me from pushing me over onto my little Italian girl and crushing her, me and several other people to death. Thankfully, though, that didn't happen.

The stadium was absolutely packed so this guy was quite popular. And he was quite good. It was the middle of the night and he was on stage dancing and singing and there was a laser light show. And we never paid for it.

The main highlight of the evening, though, was when we were walking back home and we saw a young man being treated by paramedics after being run over by a moped.

Jessica's father was jealous of us because he'd wanted to see Vasco Rossi, too.

Bought once for face value at a sold out gig, same as another poster here - a lady was trying to sell a spare ticket back to the box office but couldn't, so I said I'd take it.

I've sold a few times outside gigs, and only ever for face value, usually because someone couldn't come last minute. A friend bailed on going to London for Animal Collective before so I went to sell her ticket outside the venue. A tout offered me more for it, but I just sold it face value to someone outside. The tout proceeded to shout at me and call me names down the street :rolleyes:

Met one of her friends in Dublin and gave her the moolah when the tickets had arrived, she registered posted to my work by courier.

Tbh, I think it was more than 1000. Once I had stewed for a couple of hours after her hanging up on me, I just decided to let it go, otherwise that kind of stuff could eat away at you.

We had a 'prince' house party with lots of laughs, music blaring and all of the drugs procured for the gig consumed, turned out to be an amazing night with friends.

I still think about that nordy little cow once in a while though.

I have a mate who loves the national, his girlfriend surprised him with a surprise visit, the same night he had a ticket to go by himself, he was torn between leaving her at home , or him staying at home, they chanced their arms, went outside the gig with a note held out saying
'genuine fan looking for ticket', within 5 mins he got one for free off another genuine fan who had a spare one.

No I would never do that. I'd worry about spending so much money on a ticked that might turn out to be a fake. When I went to the Take That concert, the tickets two girls queuing in front of me had turned out to be fakes. They were ticketmaster tickets but they were "cancelled" or something like that. The girls had brought them from some guy on the way to Croke Park. I felt sorry for them. One of the girls was bawling.

No ..never ...and it annoys me that some people are prepared to be ripped off with the possibility that they may not even get into the venue and easy parted with their money ,only if you fall for the quick buck merchant /rip off ticket tout will you be .
