Ireland and World War 3

Hello,
It's all pure theory -but I have been recently thinking what happens if World War III starts, if most of European countries get engaged, etc. would you consider Ireland to be relatively safe place to live in? Eventually, what other country in Europe you think would be better to move to with family to avoid the trouble?

if it was a world war then you can be pretty sure that most of our ports and airports would be hit to deny them to the other side. As would fuel storage depots. During the Battle of Britain German fighters could only spend about 20 minutes over London. In flight refueling means we could be used as a base.

undersea interconnectors and fibre cables might also get hit where they arrive on land

It's possible that food storage might be a target too, so inland counties might not go unscathed. Though in a dry summer an air burst over a bog could start a fire with enough smoke to cause problems with the neighbours

I say that WW3 is only 35 years away, and Ireland will be at the centre of it all.

In the year 2046, known oil reserves have reached an all time low. The OPEC countries' reserves have reached a level that no longer makes them competitive and every square kilometre of every ocean is being drilled in a race to find any possible undiscovered reserve. Any reserve that has more than 100 barrels of crude oil is considered a jackpot of global economy-changing proportions.

A little-known Peruvian oil drilling company is making its way across Antarctica and discovers an oil reserve so large, the oil crisis could cease for another 30 years. However, the entire plot of land above this oil reserve was originally owned by none other than Tom Crean. By 2046, the plot of land is owned by the living descendants of the legendary Irish explorer.

Ar first, the Peruvian drilling company seeks permission from the Irish government. However, once the oil-thirsty western countries (mainly USA, Canada and Germany) discover this, they attempt to begin drilling using the reasoning that no set of direct descendants of Crean are eligible to have any say and eventually invade Irish soil to force their will. The OPEC countries, a shell of their former self, wish to retake their once dominant oil monopoly by force by attacking the western powers on Irish soil. To add to all this, a bunch of good-for-nothing greenpeace hippies, intent on protecting Antarctica, try to sabotage everybody at every opportunity.

If this does not happen, it could at least be made into a movie and directed by Michael Bay and starring Shia LaBeouf as future Irish president "Seamus McCrean".

So the OP is looking for a safe geographical location,,,on Earth,, the middle of the Amazon, lots of food, water, away from the crowd and a little, but not much shelter from the nuclear winter.

I don't think I would want to survive it, I like my comforts to much.

2. I never mentioned nuclear war. It's only an possibility that most likely won't happen.

WW3 may and probably will be a "normal" war like the ones in Iraq or Afghanistan we watch like some science-fiction reports from Mars on 42" flat screens, this one we will have behind the window, on the street. Starvation, shortage of medical supplies, lack of warnings "THE CONTENT IS HOT" on cups of hot coffee should reduce retarded Western population quite dramatically within first few months.

Just suppose it was America and China with things like cluster bombs, smart mines and drones counter measures and other counter measures, both countries are with-in range of each other. Then any war would be a 24 hour war, there would be no nighttime or daytime it would be the same intensity night or day.

In order for China to be effective from the air, it needs to capture a nearby base, say Hawaii. Its fleet could do damage, but it could also be massacred by the US Navy close to their own shores, or indeed, in an offensive action. The US also has eleven aircraft carriers - back bones of a modern, successful Navy, China has a training one iirc.

Also, it couldn't be non-stop intensity. They're human, there will be lulls in the battle. US forces Iraq in 2003 saw a slow down in combat due to the logistics catching up and the bad weather which restricted air sorties.

How long would a soldiers moral last on each side in that very high casualty war fighting 24 hours

This is the US and China here. Morale would last a bit. In China there's immense pride. Same with the US when they're on a war footing, if the objective is clear, with popular support and honesty in government.

So with this the use of mass destruction weapons would become almost inevitable early in such a conflict

I don't buy the nuclear part. If China fires, the US has more warheads and will devastate the country more than China can. Just my initial reaction.

Not really. A core area of Germany's defense of the Reich was its air power. By the time of Allies increasing war production and new technological innovation 1940s these once-wonderful planes became steadily outdated. Ireland would be the safest country in Europe to live. It's absolutely no benefit to anyone else.

Yep. I knew they had plenty of "escort" or smaller carriers. it's just that their fleet or capital carriers are so effective. One or two would suffice to take over Ireland if that's the discussion. But committing that fleet would overwhelm most navies.

Germany was the most technically advanced nation and not only in Aircrat in guns and tanks as well. As for China's industrial might they could very easily switch to a war economy and gather those things. China have 300 nuclear warhead that is way more then enough to destroy the USA. If WW3 happened. It would not matter about motivation for moral, very few could take that intensity of that all out total war of ww3. There would be little respite from it.

Then of course there are the weapons that will arise during that conflict, we don't know what they are, but rest assured, they will nullify what we think of as today's most lethal weapon. For instance the Aircraft carrier has to be a very vulnerable weapon, just as battleships almost became obsolete during ww2.

So either way WW3 is to impracticable and horrific, but as I said someone will give it a bash.
