Just signed a form to donate. But when the woman left my house I started to think about it and now I feel pretty annoyed because I realized how manipulated I was.... 1) I asked about online donating and she said its not possible and I can only donate by filling the form - totally not true 2) She asked to donate 11e - I asked where that figure came from but didnt get straight answer. Then she said if I donate 21e or more they will get another 18e from the government. I connected the dots later, 11 was only to make getting additional tenner easier! There is nothing about donating 11e on their website - there is another campaign about donating 7e.
Did anyone experienced anything similar? I feel a bit like a fool now:( I know they have to get money but is lying and manipulating people a proper way to do this? I will defo think twice next time someone from charity knocks to my door:(

She's working as a rep with a professional fundraising company, they'll get your sign up money in commission along with your first months payment if you've completed a direct debit.

Concerns CEO was on €140,000 a few years ago plus expenses. Source.

I certainly wouldn't be donating my hard earned money to Concern.

AKAIK they ring you after you've filled in the forms to be sure you meant to do it and that you still want to so you may get chance to stop the standing order if you're not happy with it.

That is what she said. I'm going to give detailed description of the visit and how I was led to signing 21e donation.

Or you can reduce the monthly SO to whatever figure you can manage. Also, most of the donations don't go straight into the CEO or any others employees pockets but keep thinking that if it makes you feel better about it.

They try to get you to donate a specific small amount because of human psychology: people don't like open-ended commitments. They think people are more likely to donate if the donation is fixed. I saw this start all at once about ten years ago, so I bet that's when some marketing survey about that hit the mainstream. :rolleyes:

I just won't give my bank details to one of these guys, as it is too hard to verify whether or not they are genuine.

So, one night, this guy calls, mid 40s, I'd say, says he is actually the team leader, goes through his sales routine, I sez, we do contribute, but not via direct debit ever, he asks why not, I say how I effectively cannot verify..., he points out some kind of charter promise, which I calmly point out makes no difference (actually, to point out where there is a written statement that you can trust the guy who is pointing it out to you tested my straight-faced-ness/patience)... again he tries, then I state: look, I don't want to waste your time... & that is what you are doing here, as we just won't give you the details for the dd.

Then, he just gives up & walks away muttering... I've never seen such an ungraceful exit by a sales person. My wife was stunned by how unpleasant his reaction was, given how polite I'd been about it.

He did his organization no favours that night, especially being a 'team leader'.
