Cancer Scares

This morning I had the pleasure of having a middle aged man rub gel on my balls for an ultra-sound, which I must say adds to the Monday morning misery after a very restless night, petrified doesn't even come close to how I felt.

But it all went well, I'm not dying, yay!!!

I read once that 1 in 3 people will have cancer in their lifetime, I don't know how accurate this is but it wouldn't surprise me. So I was wondering how many here have a their own cancer scare?

Yep had a growth on my parotid gland. Was benign but now I have a massive scar and a numb ear.

Had chronic discomfort in my nuts, one time ~ looking back; A good fapping session probably would've sorted it! :rolleyes:

Went to get myself checked out. Next thing ye know? Yeah. Some middle aged woman is smearing my bits with jelly and putting a phone receiver against them.

Turned out the original Doctor (not a bad looking female, as it happens. But, under Those circumstances, who gives a fuck?! She'd found a frigging Lump!) She'd found the scar tissue from my vasectomy, decades earlier!

Here's the scary bit though: Not long afterwards, another Doctor decided he had reason to grope my nuts. He announced, in no time, that he'd found something too ~ happily, I reassured him it was just the scar and he agreed it would be.

But; Fiddle and feel as I may. I can't 'find' fuck all down there. Bit naughty. A potential cancer of the balls then can be That hard for the untrained to detect? So, by the time we find we have three balls, we're finished anyway? Fuck

That's what they thought I had originally.

I have the same scar, twice! Had two surgeries in the same place!

I don't know which is worse the cancer or some of the terrible treatments.

Yes... age 15, lumps in my neck and very ill. Had a biopsy and all, turned out to be nothing serious. I was terrified though!

The scariest thing about cancer is it's not a judgemental disease-it doesn't care who you are ,what responsibilities you have ,whether you're young or old- it just strikes at random.

hi i am a cancer survivor ,i was diagnosed with womb cancer ,it was caught on a smear test i am a live today because i went for a smear test please do not put off any test that can save your life the key is to catch early,i have a way to go still on treatment but looking good

Had a lump in my breast at 17. Scared the beejeesus out of me, and my mother. Was nothing to worry about though.

I had a scare due to my periods going haywire and all other unmentionables related to them about 4 years ago. Had a rake of scans, blood tests etc done but it turned out to be something completely fine.................

It seems that after almost 20 years on the pill that my menstrual cycle was so used to the pill telling it what to do that once my hubby had a vasectomy and I came off the pill my cycle lost the run of itself:D

I was so relieved.......I just thought "Oh no, typical Fluffy!!!! Get the kids almost reared and boom, along comes the big auld C to deal with.......It was scary but an eye opener at the same time...

You know the way men are meant to think about sex 3 times a minute, well I am in my 40s so that thought about sex becomes one about death.

So everytime I get a pain here or an ache there I automatically think it must be cancer.

But then they go away.

Just last week I went to the doctors with this gigantic painful lump on my arse. Hard to walk hard to sit down etc. Ive had it for about a year but it never hurt until last week and I thought nothing of it. Turns out it was only a perennial abcess but I had to spend some time in Hospital for surgery (which never happened in the end :pac:)

Now, the thought it could be cancer crossed my mind occasionally but I was never overly worried, and wasn't sure if there was such thing as arse cancer.

There's nothing like laying on your side in A&E, pants down & legs curled up into your chest waiting for surgical consultants, doctors, nurses etc coming in one after the other to have a nice inspection. If you know what I mean.....:(

I've also come across a lump beside me testicles occasionally but Google says thats just a "lymph node" so Ill be graaaaaaaaaaand shur.

I had that experience myself when I was 16 - glad to hear it went well!

Bowel cancer which accounts for 5% of fatalities its is a deadly form of cancer.

7 years ago i had the joy of getting my testicles gelled up and scanned, luckily it was just trapped fluid so after a little surgery (after a 5 month wait by which time my sac had grown to the size of a grapefruit) it had been drained and back to normal, im now 5 months into a 12 month waiting list for a brain scan for something that they think is hereditory, i still blame harney

I only mean its not obvious like missing leg or something - nobody can see whats wrong with the person, just maybe sometimes hear or smell.

is this another ploy in the campaign to eliminate smoking amongst drinkers? Or in general rather.. as the general consensus is all Irish drink.. again are they saying "choose drink!"?! Thought mouthwash would only help fight that stuff

I assume this is all public? Go private and you'll probably have a brain scan in a matter of weeks.

Had a mole on my back that I had to go to dublin to get checked out, thankfully I got the all clear, not as serious as some of the posts here but thought id share anyway. Scared me though..........

Lucky enough Cancer does not run in my family but that does not exclude me from getting the big C.

I have had two people die of Cancer recently who I knew very well. One was a great friend of mine and as someone else said, its horrible seeing someone waste away to skin and bone. She was 48, just finished her law degree, got a job in her chosen profession and bam, Cancer came back for a 3rd time... Life can be so cruel.

One thing I have learned about Cancer is that if the Cancer does not get you the treatment will. You have to be extremely lucky to survive a bout of Cancer and I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Enjoy your health, it certainly is your wealth..

Never had one myself, no, but I've been scared shitless ever since my cousin died last year of cancer at age 25. She'd been in and out of hospitals since she was about my age (and she had the epitome of the perfect healthy lifestyle all her life). That's a really really terrifying thought.

I'm 27 and haven't had one. Cancer runs in my family. My Dad had bowel cancer, my Uncle had bowel cancer, my Grandad had bowel cancer, my Aunt had breast cancer, another Aunt had lung cancer. They all died. Another Aunt recently found out she has breast cancer. I'd love to get some kind of genetic test for it. It's very scary (all except 1 are blood relatives) and I really should be more proactive about testing

Just turned 23 & te Doctor found a lump in my right testicle.. He said he's 99% sure it's a cyst.. Have to go back to him & am getting referred to hospital presume for an ultrasound..

I'm not so sure.. I feel pure crap like its something more. Maybe it's just cause I'm worried until I get some results.

I'm 23.. I scared out of my wits.. Plus my dad only died 4 months ago so I suppose I'm just in a fecked up emotional state right now.

Anyone wanna help me out here!

Actually IN your testicle? Dear god that sounds horrible. Even if it is just a cyst they might have to put the scalpel to it :eek:

That or they might just give you an prescription and send you off like they did with me (arse cheek). But if the doctor said he's 99% sure then Id say you will be fine.

on another note: I got called back to the hospital for an appointment with the surgeon next week even though they sent me home 3 weeks ago and said to come back if it doesn't go away. Is this appointment just to check how its getting on?

I've had more than one doctor say that it's really only immediate family they're interested in when they ask about cancer and family history - parents, brothers and sisters. I tell them my aunt had colon cancer and they don't even bother to write it down. Is this right?

I'm sure he's right tbh, cysts on the testes is incredibly common and more often than not it turns out to be nothing to worry about. As you can see over half of the men in the poll have had scares and I'd put money on most of them relating to the testicles.

However, seeing as the irrational mind focuses on the worst case scenario, on the off chance it does turn out to be something a little more serious then you should know that testicular cancer is also one of the most treatable forms of cancer, with 95% of men surviving more than 10 years.

In short, don't worry!!

It's just so common tbh, pretty much everyone is going to have members of their extended family who have had it. My uncle had it and my grandmother died of cancer.
