Gaddafi and the IRA (ITV 1)

Similar to the master of preeminent strikes, George W, i thought I'd get the ball rolling on the subject matter of Exposure; Gaddafi and the IRA (insert menacing music running in the background here), showing tonight on ITV 10.35.

I'm sure with all the self loathing Irish apologists (just an observation) that seem to swamp this site, ITV will have a captive audience no doubt.

My question to you (yes i mean you) ; would ITV not be better off making a more up-to-date current affairs programme about Gaddafi, such as say Gaddafi and his relationship with previous UK governments such as Tony Blair, or Gaddafi and how the SAS trained his Elite army's in suppressing the Libyan population for the last ? years, only stopping as recently as 6 months before the uprising, or the UK governments arms deals to Gaddafi to suppress these people or how they turned a blind eye to his endless human rights abuses in return for oil???

To me the list is endless on what ITV could have made their programme on, but yet again choose to drum up some anti Irish propaganda nonsense from an era that we are trying to move on from, to deflect attention away from the dirty murky world of UK Government foreign policy and the lengths they go for the ''national interest''.

Thoughts anyone??

P.s I posted in AH instead of TV to get a more realistic representation of boards, if you want to move it somewhere else, please not tv section. maybe conspiracy theories

In case you're interested Channel 4 are running a documentary about Tony Blair's business dealings,including his trips to Libya,right at this very moment.So the British propoganda machine isn't much of a machine except in your mind really.I would say that of course given that I hate Ireland:rolleyes:

Oh the execution of those British soldiers was horrific, but that doesn't mean shoot-to-kill by the SAS is justifiable either - a very balanced examination.

Yep. I voted 'Valid Programme' before I watched it.

I think my facebook status sums up my problem with this programme:
"So according to ITV, Gaddafi's a monster for helping the IRA; but it's perfectly acceptable for the British to help Libyan 'rebels'? Propagandist shite"

The weapons issue is mostly bluster anyway because the IRA's most effective weapon was the home made fertilizer bomb.

Fertilizer or the bi product ammonium nitrate is very stable. A plastic high explosive is needed to set it off. Semtex being the one used mostly be the IRA. I don't know if it was Gaddafi they got it from.

I always find it funny when small groups are branded terrorists but sovereign nations seem to get a free pass when it comes to acts of terror. Weird.

If one group holds something by force its fairly reasonable to expect the other group to try to take it back by force. To put it in lay terms, "like lads what were ye expecting???"

That, and the police reaction(none) has done more than anything else recently to validate Martin Meehan and cos opinions, what a load of ****e that program was, propaganda with nothing substantive, message was that gadaffi is a baddie and the paddies are coming to get you with his help

I'm just waiting for the publication of all the Hillsborough information and what she thought of what happened. The campaign is going great for full release of the information and the Tory policy of introducing online petitions may backfire spectacularly.

As for the programme, nothing new for me, didn't know Ghadaffi had exported that many times or the attempt on Di, but nothing earth shattering tbh.

I found the commentary on the Canary Wharf bomb interesting. 25 years of people dying up north and a bomb in the heart of the economic zone in London brings it to a head.

When it was ordinary young people killing each other it was tolerable but when the ability to make profits gets threatened the game is up.

World in Action was a brilliant programme. Tbh, it was the SAS, what did people expect and they fought fairly in my opinion. The IRA were going to bomb innocent people in Gibraltar.The programme exposed the cover up by the British establishment though brilliantly. If they'd had have been honest from the start I doubt much would have been made of it.

As for the Stone murders and Milltown lynching after that, shocking viewing as a 15 year old. Would have been Republican for a while after that until I copped the futility and pointlessness of the campaign.

irish seperatists have been planting bombs in england since the fenian times. semtex just allowed em to make bigger bangs. there was a bobming campaign in england in the 70's.

the canary warf bomb was just so big it shocked the brits, i think the fenians tried a similar job when the tried to burn down liverpool docks, docks being as important an economic target at that time as canary warf 100 yrs later.
