so, following on from the Loners thread from before (and I wanted my 100th post to be special) I decided to open this thread, Im 35, living with mammy, on the dole, have travelled a bit, lived in another country.. all my friends are married with kids, I have absolutely nothing to do (except help out at home) nowhere to go, no friends to go there with... no future...

apart from blasting "yore ma" with piss, is the general election/presidential elecion, gona be the 2 highlights of 2011 for me? not much else TBH

can I just say thanks to everyone who posted in this thread... to those who advised me to "get a job" "get my life together" etc.. many thanks, I never thought of that before..:rolleyes:

what I have seen is that we are many people in the same situation, its good to know we are not alone, though I do like to be alone a lot, I also appreciate contact with actual humans, be it a discussion of recent events, in the pub, or physical interaction with a laydee, or just a bit of craic.

responding to one poster.. I lived abroad 8 years, came back to my beloved country to see the shambles that has been made of her, and to other posters: the dole doesnt really help emigration.. otherwise I would be posting a very different thread from a far sunnier place

life can be hard.
We each have different things in life that we have to overcome/ cope with, to different degrees.

I don't know that I can say anything that might help you starviewadams.
There are of course other people in your situation or similar situations at least.

I don't think that the style and size of one bed apartments that we have in this country is good for anyone.

I don't know that living alone is good for anyone, not making a judgement, just saying.

has OP been on the dole for nine months? if so, why not claim b2ea and go to/back to college? it would be free to do in that case, you still get the dole and there are people and opportunities all over the place.most courses are only starting about now so late registration is very possible.
being in your thirties in college is not unusual at all anymore. lots of older types in my course upskilling. I myself left a few years ago and since work has dried up I've gone back. 2 weeks in im enjoying it. nice people

You sound like your doing just fine to me.

I remember a show on RTE some years back one of those property shows, well the presenter of the show went around to people who where looking to get on the property ladder (or not) and help them find a place. One girl was living at home with her parents scraping a few quid together for this and that and your man was trying to convience her to buy this shoebox apartment in Tallaght for stupid money. 350,000+. He kept saying things like "do you want to be living at home forever" and such ****e trying to make her feel guilty about not getting "a foot on the ladder".

I think in the end she was pressurised into buying the shoebox even though she felt it was a bad call. I'm guessing she wants to kill him now.

Do what you feel is right and feck everyone else tbh.

Is this a joke? Presumably, the OP is in this situation because he has no job. Solution - move abroad, get a job, get an apartment, make friends, find a girlfriend. I had a friend in the same situation as OP (but younger) and he finally got off his arse and went to Korea to teach English and is now making good money, saving loads for when he comes home, he's out every night and having the time of his life. If the OP is well educated, I'm sure there are plenty of other opportunities for him on the continent and further afield (Canada, Australia...) If I'd stayed in Ireland, I'm sure I'd be on the dole and living with Mammy and miserable as well. Living in Ireland with no job just makes no sense unless there's a reason you're not able to leave.

The dole in Ireland is the most generous I've ever seen. Why are you not saving some of it? It costs very little to emigrate to some places, if the employer covers flights and accommodation.

Different scenery will force him/her to try new things, meet new people and start life over again. It can be the start of reinventing themselves with no baggage they can be the person they always wanted to be.

Leaving is a good way of kickstarting a new life.

Join a language class OP, most language centers offer concession prices for those on the dole. You'll get to meet new people and learn a language in the process, stick with it for a while, become more proficient at it & there's always the option of moving abroad.

Start a loners club but because your all loners no one is allowed to contact anyone else and your not allowed to meet up for social events or anything as that would be totally against the whole loners ethos.

I suggest you tell your mammy its time for her to move out, that you need your space and you cant live with her forever...

Seriously, get your own place, you can apply for rent supplement to help and at least then if you meet a girl you dont have to be embarrassed bringing them back to your mums place. If the dole asks why you've moved out tell them your mum kicked you out and you've no where else to go.
