Its not just a name though. Time and space are interwoven and time is a dimension of space. The reason time slows at incredible speeds is because your mass increases relative to your speed. And mass affects time, the more mass the slower time moves. The reason black hole/wormholes are linked with it isnt because of gravity. Its because the are effectively tears in space time that may allow travel from one point directly to another point anywhere in space via a tunnel.

If you think about it - now is the actual now, the original timeline, and time travel isn't invented until sometime in the future, say 2020, then it hasn't been invented yet so no one has traveled back yet so we can't confirm or deny it in theory. My thoughts on the current theory that if you travel faster than light you can catch up with it and go back in time i.e. you seen something that already happened. Imagine a cup smashed in front of you and then you take off on a light speed train to catch up with the light I think the light would travel in a dispersed motion so it wouldn't look the same the further you go back so it wouldn't be too accurate or become.completely blurred. I don't think you could pick up the cup from the example above to prevent it being smashed as it wouldn't physically be there so this would, in theory, prove.that you can't change the past only the future.

Green Mile wrote: » You obviously haven't heard the latest discovery? I think this is why the OP started this topic. They have found neutrinos can travel faster than light. It breaks the rules of physics and has everyone baffled. Here a link:http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/219419/20110925/particles-moving-faster-than-light-albert-einstein-subatomic-particle-opera-physics-faster-than-ligh.htm There's loads of links on google. This was discovered about 3 days ago. If neutrinos can travel back in time, we can code them with messages to send messages back to the past. So, it could be possible that neutrinos currently have codes sent from the future to us. It gets complicated but it is fascinating.
Green Mile wrote: » It is in fact possible to time travel. There is a theory that does co-incide with physics. You can only travel forward in time, and it is about traveling at a high speed very very fast. Basically, if people could travel fast enough, a guy would go into a Pod or Shuttle and after, say 10 years would open his shuttle to find himself 11 years in the future. He would be more preserved and time on earth would have moved onward while in the process. It seems pointless to take so long to time travel but it can happen. There is proof that a clock has time traveled. It was synced with other clocks and when it was tested. There was a difference of 0.000000000000001 of a second. It took a year to do this experiment but it showed it could be done.
