Time travel makes no sense

1st off if there is or ever will be such thing im pretty sure people would be with us now from the future

2nd
to believe if i could go back a day thats basically saying that there i would be repeating the whole day or that going back in time has rewound time

It just makes zero sense or at least could someone explain it in a way that it might make sense!!

What if your whole life is a dream and then you wake up and look at the clock, and remember you had a nap for 5 minutes, but the clock is 5 minutes fast, and you are dreaming that its 5 minutes slow, but then you wake up from that dream and you realise you had a dream within a dream, but then that dream begins to collapse and the only way back to reality is to time travel to reset the hands of the clock - so it won't be 5 minutes fast anymore.

Just think about that, time travel is real.

People always say that if you travel back in time it would have to be in such a way that it didn't change anything, how exactly would that be possible? Unless people time travelled back simply as spectators and there was no way to interact with the people then there would be a pretty big chance of there being changes to world history...what if I time traveled back to Martin Luther Kings speech, appeared there beside him and said that I was a time traveller, the whole world would have seen that so wouldn't that world then be changed going in to the future?

But that future has already happened for us so our 'past' and our memories couldn't change.

To me that just proves that it's impossible, not that it if it's done it would have to be done in a way that didn't influence the future. How could it be stopped from influencing the future?

I think time travel to the future could be possible but not back in time.

In my opinion, time travel in the BTTF sense is impossible. It might be possible to alter the passing of time with black holes but this isn't a "go back to the 1940s and see Hitler" style of time travel.

Time is what happens even while nothing else is happening.
as said, it's only a name we attach to something to help us understand it.

travalling forward would be possible, but it's not really travveling forward, its more slowing yourself down, and time just keeps on going, as does everything around you.

the process involves speeding up of all things,
to slow your time down, you need to traval at incredible speeds, that causes time to slow down for you whle it continues along as normal for everything else.
so, for example, you you blast off in a rocket for a planet 200 years away at the speeds we can traval at the minute, only you traval at a speed which makes the trip only 10 years for you.
by the time you get there, you've aged 10 years, but everyone you know on earth is already dead.

another example, a mag lev train track wrapped around the world in a straight line loop,
you get inside with another person and it travalls faster and faster and faster, the faster it goes, the more time inside the train slows ompared to time outside,
meaning that you could potentially traval fast enough that time inside the train passes 2 hours, yet a year has passed outside the train.

the reason science believes black holes/worm holes to be linked with time traval is because the gravity is so great nothing appears to escape, not even light, which is supposed to be impossible.

Probably already been pointed out but I'm not arsed reading the thread.

If you went back a day there would be two of ya. Doesnt rewind time only shifts you personally in space/time.

The only way it would be possible is with wormholes. And the only point in time you could travel to would be the time you created the initial wormhole. So the reason there isnt time travelers here is because we havent got a wormhole for people to come through. Whenever we create one will be the furthest anyone can come back.

I didn't mean it doesn't exhist, I just meant as in, its not something that we have control over. We can't stop it. Even if we slow it down for ourselves, it still happens for everything else. It just appears to slow down relative to the space around us.

The whole tunnel aspect of it is pure guesswork mixed with science fiction stories.

There is nothing to prove they are tunnels at all.
They are a mass so dense that nothing can escape their pull. The leap to a tunnel is all guesswork.
They could be a body, on which time stands still relative to time around it. But be no differant then any thee body in space beyond that.

You can't say that time travel doesn't make sense because it might not be invented yet.

If you think about it - now is the actual now, the original timeline, and time travel isn't invented until sometime in the future, say 2020, then it hasn't been invented yet so no one has traveled back yet so we can't confirm or deny it in theory.

My thoughts on the current theory that if you travel faster than light you can catch up with it and go back in time i.e. you seen something that already happened. Imagine a cup smashed in front of you and then you take off on a light speed train to catch up with the light I think the light would travel in a dispersed motion so it wouldn't look the same the further you go back so it wouldn't be too accurate or become.completely blurred. I don't think you could pick up the cup from the example above to prevent it being smashed as it wouldn't physically be there so this would, in theory, prove.that you can't change the past only the future.

However, you can't traval faster then light in the laws of physics as we now understand them.
Light remains at a constant speed regardless of the differance in speed between two observers as explained in the two videos I posted.

I do understand your train of thought though, by dropping the cup, watching it smash, then traveling faster then the speed of light, you could.watch the cup smash again but not stop it from being smashed.

I think at some time in the future we will be able the view the past but not interact with that period of time....we can view it because the light is still there, like an echo. We cannot view the future because it has not been created yet...

You obviously haven't heard the latest discovery? I think this is why the OP started this topic. They have found neutrinos can travel faster than light. It breaks the rules of physics and has everyone baffled.

Its more than likely an error of some sort. But even so the fact that they would be able travel faster than light doesnt mean we could send them backwards in time.

my point is that if joe bloggs discovers a way to travel in time that isn't reliant on the wormhole idea, and he wants to travel back to point x in time, before the time machine was even invented, he would already have appeared in point x in time. he can't actually change the past, his travelling back to it is actually part of the past

you cant go back and talk to yourself, for example, unless you can specifically remember meeting your future self in your past
