Im not a birdwatcher but today at work I noticed the birds had gone very quiet and then I saw two of these circling up high....

Then one dived down and caught a pigeon....

first one is a Buzzard, then the second two look like Peregrines to me.

First time out with the camera in ages today. Met a Boardsie (nice to meet you V Bull!) and then got stuck out in a lightning storm in very open bogland! :eek:

Brilliant photos, All! Especially impressed by the ones where the peregrine's are fighting over the unfortunate pigeon. If you could, wouldn't you love to jump in there to save him! Thumbs up to all!

I have a Nikon D90 and had a 70-300mm VR lens on at the time....

Planted some sunflowers ages ago, the birds are going crazy eating the seeds now:

Lots of Swallows around today, it is so nice to hear them chattering away, hard to believe that they will soon be gone for this year

These two where chasing each other, the aerobatics where amazing and the speed they were going :eek:

Yeah this is the one that gave me a great display overhead the other day. Unfortunately it was dull and overcast, but you can't have it all!

What is curious is that it is a Cinnabar caterpillar in its beak, presumably just given by the robin...
Cinnabar caterpillars are toxic to most species...I wonder can the Cuckoo manage it though. Certainly the robin can't.

According to this the Cuckoo can eat toxic caterpillars, including Cinnabar but...... how does the Robin know
