HP Touchpad Thread (NO Discussion Of Personal Buying/Selling)

Just a heads up to people.

I'm in NY for the summer and I've just ordered 2 of these for $220.
HP have discontinued the Touchpad this week and are now letting them go for $99 (16GB) and $149 (32GB).

I know most of you aren't in the USA but treat this as a heads up to get a very good tablet, with Flash Player, at a knock-down price.

What a pile of crap. These aren't Touchpads sitting around the shop floor waiting for a randomer to walk in and buy them - they're reserved for customers who have ordered them! FFS if the customers hadn't ordered them, they wouldn't be there for the staff to 'nab'! If I had one reserved and it was taken by a staff member I'd consider it little short of theft. Hardly surprised though, given the quality of staff generally present in Argos stores....

The rumour mill said Dabs had 500 in stock, took orders for 2000 then closed, if true then they are depending on their distribution channel to replenish the 1500 shortfall.

Their tweet monkey said after the chaos if you got a confirm mail then you would be honored. Maybe someone else who got through can give you more info.

Me too, going to get the Galaxy 10.1 tho - the Amazon cancellation has just drained the life out of me. 2 days of stress and no work done. Bloody power city were selling the galaxy for 409 at the weekend, tried to hold out for a HP and now they are gone back to 479. The joys.

I sincerely hope that those of you with Argos reservations get them.

Ok i had a pre-order on amazon designated as "waiting for stock" which has now been cancelled by Amazon.

I also had a reserve on one in Argos (omni in Santry) which was for collection between today and tomorrow. Just went down there now and they dont have my reservation number on the system !!! I showed them the email and txts i got confirming my order, but all they could say was that it wasnt on their system so there was nothing they could do !!!

Also they wouldnt tell me if they even had any in the store for pre-orders or walk-ins !!!

Going to try it again tomorrow as the reservation is for up to tomorrow night but reckon theres 0% chance

i am someone who buys most of my stuff from amazon. After this poor PR stunt, I will be no longer spending any money with them at all.

The worst part is, people have short memory and will continue to shop there so I don't think this will damage their reputation one bit.

Yes, the likes of the Fly3 seems to have dropped to the 110 -115 dollar price. Sadly, just American sites though.

hmm whilst stumbling around the touchpad-droughted land of the net I found something similarly cheap and good enough for most uses. This Sweex YARVIK isn't massive but it'd keep most people happy till the next firesale (Fujitsu next? )

7" Resistive Touch screen - No need to elaborate on why this is a bad idea in a tablet.
600MHz ARM11 CPU - Just about minimum spec for Android
256MB RAM - Minimum spec to run Android
4GB storage with SD card slot - Meh

Not to mention the likely three hour battery life.

They tried to tell me that too, asked to speak to a manager and the manager tried to say the same. I pointed out that my reservation was confirmed, and that there was no ambiguity about it. Then I was told "oh yeah I can see that now", changed their story completely.

Picking mine up tomorrow.

So Amazon have cancelled most of the orders. I didnt manage to book any with them but I was hoping that they will fulfill all the orders.

Reason - I have an order with FNAC. Which is now looking like a lost cause now. If Amazon cant get more to fulfill the orders then chances for FNAC looks bad.

Ah... the wait is killing me. Just want to get over with, either way. Hope we hear something soon.

Thanks to everyone for tying to help and thanks to the mods for keeping it all under control. It was a fun game of chinese whispers while it lasted. See you all on ebay in a few weeks fingers crossed the price comes down.
