Activision has finally put an end to speculation and confirmed a £34.99/$49.99 price for an annual premium subscription to Call of Duty: Elite. An annual membership gets you all Call of Duty DLC free for the year, and during the Call of Duty XP conference in LA Activision promised 20 new pieces of Modern Warfare 3 content over the next year. It wouldn't just be maps, either, with Activision confirming it was working on providing new multiplayer modes and missions for the game's Spec Ops mode. Having a premium subscription to Call of Duty: Elite will also allow you to access map packs before they are made available over Xbox LIVE, PlayStation Network and Steam. Map packs will still be sold, but on Call of Duty: Elite they will be stripped apart and handed out on an individual basis every few weeks. Premium membership will also entitle you to enter daily competitions, which offer both real-life and virtual prizes and promise to cater to all skill levels and playing styles. Call of Duty: Elite provides clan support for all users, but subscribers will also be able to level up their clans in a fashion similar to their individual player ranks. Elite TV will provide original video content to subscribers. So far this includes weekly shows such as Friday Night Fights, which pits celebrities against one another and will be directed by brothers Ridley and Tony Scott, and Noob Tube, a light-hearted commentary show produced by Jason Bateman and Will Arnett. Finally, you'll have eight times the storage space for videos if you're a premium member. Call of Duty: Elite officially launches alongside Modern Warfare 3 on November 8.

Shammy wrote: » If there are 3 map packs then thats 45 euro which would equal the yearly sub. If there are 2 packs then its 15 euro for the extras . If theres only 1 map pack they can F**k right off.
Leeg17 wrote: » They said in the interview that the value of the map packs in MW3 will be 60$ (4x15$) so even if you were to buy 4 map packs in a CoD cycle normally it makes sense to go for Elite, plus you get the maps earlier than regular release. Anything on top of that such as the daily competitions (which I look forward to enter, something different!), extra theatre mode slots (not in HD) and stuff is an extra.
Magill wrote: » They've said there will be 20 pieces of additional content, im assuming that'll be at least 10-12 maps. The rest is split between game modes and spec ops missions apparently. Its still in their interest to make a few map packs because im sure people wont buy elite and will just buy the maps seperately.

I can do without the extra slots for videos, the exclusive videos by big names in hollywood, the competitions and the razzmatazz than blinds fools. If the maps are sh*te, then good luck getting my money, I will hold off buying individual map packs untill after launch and not be swayed by buying it on launch. If the consensus is good then I may join in, if not I'll spend my money elsewhere. The only way I can see myself going for this is if there is some past iterations of COD4/MW2 maps that you can only have through Elite. And even then I'd still think that there would be problems with match making as I'd be paired with distant international players rather than those local to me. €40/45 is another game and as such any enjoyment from elite should be judged against another purchase of equal value. With upcoming and recent releases promising and fulfilling so much, I'd be reluctant to pay for an add on to a game that wasn't the best it could be or at least advanced the series somewhat. I paid €20 for FM2011, £10 for Rome Total War and those have given me far more bang for my buck than paying for the similarly priced map packs of black ops. I'm sure many people remember fondly similar bargains that cost so little but occupied vast swathes of your time in a pleasant manner. If upon MW3's release it has a pile of perks stuck randomly in to the amorphous blob of multiplayer, with hideous point streak claws without any basic understanding of balance then it'll bomb and I can't see myself ever paying full RRP for a COD game again. Elite's success is entirely dependent on MW3 being a triple A game and judging from what I've seen of it and how poorly IW has in the past supported it's projects I can see it being a failure after a massive hype campaign drove initial uptake way above it's actual true value. Think of it as Eircom shares.
