Acer Aspire T671 Upgrade

Hey guys,

Had a search, found a thread but a slight bit of a different issue.

I'm having some issues when it comes to editing my HD videos in Sony Vegas. They lag beyond being able to watch them in the video preview box, once they are rendered they play fine in Windows Media Player. They won't however play in FLV, itunes, divx or Media player classic.

I bought a new graphics card (GeForce GT220 1GB DDR2) and power supply (BFG 405W) a while ago and still lagging.

I assume the next course is to upgrade my CPU? Would a core duo do, or what would I be best getting?

I don't want to go down the road of doing a brand new re-build due to money issues, and I figure, most of the stuff I buy now I can later transfer to a new PC if needed.

PC is an Acer T671:

Intel Pentium D 915 2.80GHz
3GB DDR2 RAM

Is it a simple case of replacing the CPU to fix my depressive woes

What you need to find is your motherboard model, then we can tell if you can upgrade to a Core2Duo or not.

Yeah sorry, I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

It does seem as though there are a lot of versions of that particular PC, and I cant really tell how compatible. You wouldnt have any freinds with C2D's that you could borrow and try in your system ?

Not that I can think of, but is it just a case of putting it in and trying it?

Nope. You'd need to cool it, and that would mean re-gunging the cooler and snapping it back on (a hair-raising experience with Intel pushpins!

RAM is probably expensive, CPU is OEM so you need to have an LGA1155 compatible cooler already. Motherboard is great, but I feel that a P67 is generally better value for money if you aren't going to be taking advantage of the write caching.

Where are you ordering from? If its HWVS I would go with something like this:

Yeah its great, you can ask anyone here. I've placed loads of orders with them and never had a problem. Shipping usually takes 6-8 days. The only problem is that they only take payment via bank transfer

If you can only pay with a CC then scan is a better option as its cheaper than OCUK:

I meant to pick up the retail version, but my basket reset, and I picked the OEM the second time round (Stupid)
