Didn't see the news but...

Well at least it's over now, 12 unbiased members of the public who knew the full facts of the case (unlike some armchair prosecutors here) have found the gardai innocent of all charges.

I sat through every day of the trial, albeit I did hear voir dire arguments, but excusing that I still would love to see the reasoning for the jury's verdict.

Testimony was given by student garda that were there who said that they were unhappy with what happened in the Flat.

The accused lied about even being in the flat, they pretended they had a warrant.

Really, not sure what the jury was thinking.

Why does it say that several members of the jury were in tears, surely they should be emotionally unaffected by proceedings?

A jury of our peers decided the case, so I can't see why anyone would complain about the result, with the exception of the group of people who didn't get what they wanted.

I am not saying that we shouldn't accept the jury's result as valid. I am just amazed and interested at how they came to it. Not one I would have had I been on it.

Probaly thinking about being stopped on a frequent basis for car insurance, speeding, lights not in perfect working order, etc. And not a hope of any response should a serious crime happen to them.

I was told about this the day it happened, by someone who knows the lad that got the shit kicked out of him in the flat. It grinds my gears knowing that the supposed upholders of the law get away with brutality yet again, and the jury having an emotional response to any part of the trial should render the verdict null and void no?

I can see a re-trial happening in this case, hopefully justice will be served unlike today.

Weren't they directed by the judge before they were sent out to reach their decision? I haven't a clue obviously, as I wasn't there. No doubt they'll be a full report in the media spilling the beans.

Indeed. Although, the accuseds' Sargent, gave evidence that she had no knowledge of why they went to the Flat and was annoyed when she was lied to when asked if they were there.

Yeah, they were charged with fact finding decision and had stuff explained but how they used the fact to sustain this verdict is what I am amazed at.
