Nice, Hey Akihabara had a few Akai Katana cabs last time I was there, pretty awesome. Hopefully they still have the Darius Burst cab too, it was only on location test back in December but surely they wouldn't let go of that bad boy

I'm off to Japan for my honeymoon later this year so expect lots of quizzing coming your way soon lads!

Actually seriously considering also going back to Japan for our honeymoon this year - but we're not 100% sure on the safety re: radiation etc. Plan would be Osaka - Okinawa - Tokyo or vice versa.

I wouldn't be too worried personally. I'd only be concerned about the risk of visiting Kanto (which unfortunately includes Tokyo) - again, wouldn't stay completely away, but personally I'd be iffy about staying there for prolonged periods of time. If you visit most of the other areas - including Osaka, Kyoto and the other major cities - you're more out of harms way.

With caution I still think Japan is a safe place to visit, though there is now areas to be avoided. Personally, I'm heavily considering picking up a one-way ticket over in the coming months

so dusted off my D300 and tried to take a photo of a EspgaludaII playing on the cabinet - refresh rates screwing up the pic, need to work out how I can take a proper pic.

got audio working through my cab speakers also so took a quick vid using the iphone. Picture isn't great, and I was playing 1handed using a fightpad, as the controls aren't wired up yet. This was all just a test setup though, really can't wait to get the monitor flicked 90degrees

long story short here

Its a Sega New Astro City cabinet, I'm in the process of making it possible to play my 360 through it. The monitor can be rotated too, so once I get tired of playing Death Smiles/SSFIV etc I'll rotate and start playing the Shmups the way the should be.

Once I have the 360 working, I'll update my original thread with what I did etc. Its been alot of fun so far !

I'm wondering if it's better to splash out on the best condition cab I can find, pay a premium and save myself the work doing it up as I'm utterly clumsy at anything involving wiring, soldering or generally anything that involves me having to do anything remotely outside of my DIY/Electronics comfort zone.

Super early research questions

Any ideas on a good place to source cabs? Any dealers in Ireland so I can avoid import tax and high postage? Has anyone imported a cab direct from .jp? What was the import tax like (if any)?

I reckon I'll inevitably end up getting a cab (and hopefully some Cave PCB's) but fancy some more consoles and original SHMUPS first. I think the cab will need lots of research and scouring ads to find a good one no?

Here's my projected list of gear I'm planning to purchase next (in order):

As for your listing of machines - if you do go to Tokyo, you'll pick up 90% of that for reasonable money in Super Potato in Akihabara.

I'd need to check in about 5 extra suitcases just to fill them with 'stuff'! What about mailing back to Eire? Import tax? Cheaper anyway than buying on eBay etc?

Japan is on the cards for the honeymoon later this year so I'll be hounding all of you with the .jp knowledge of where to go as quickly as possible so my by then wife won't kick my head in for using our honeymoon as an excuse to go game shopping!
