It all started with this silly no fly zone, now its to get rid of Gaddafi, and replace him with some puppet.

I know one thing, this was is nothing to do with protecting civilians.

Would this be the same Gadafi that bombed a US airliner and sent four boatloads of arms to the IRA (can you imagine the extra bloodshed this island would have seen if three of them hadn't been stopped)

No he wasn't, it was just a case of keeping him close. The rebellion presented a rather nice opportunity to get rid of him though.

If you want to get all high and mighty then why not ask why the UN is not doing the same in Syria.

I'm sorry but this mission is different to Iraq and A'stan.

NATO are slowly going in and it's not to protect their own skin.

Unfortunately, because the US is on board (I'm not a fan of theirs I'll say) this mission will be chucked in the same category as Iraq.

The whole Libya thing is rediculous anyway. The mandate was to protect civilians. The only way I can see that is a quick and decissive victory for either the rebels or for Gadaffi.

A half assed no-fly zone and attack on heavy armour only enforces a state of stalemate, prolongs the conflict and leads to a long term threat to civilians.

They're ramping up the no-fly with attack helicopters. And it was never half-assed to begin with. The fact that Gadaffi is silencing journalists tells all really - he's a tyrant. I'm not saying the US or UK have clean hands either. But they're doing something good here.

And there's western boots on the ground. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of deployment (maybe a para regiment) into Misrata soon.

All these countries that NATO go into receive a big bill when the wars are finished. Im sure they want to destroy the system in Libya and leave these people impoverished like they done in Iraq,

Thats what I mean. They are only now, months later, talking about deploying ground troops. Starting off with just the no fly, then attacking armour, then this tip toeing in is only delaying everything and causing more harm to the civilian population.

The only way to do it is a quick victory one way or the other, although such an explicit and open war is politically difficult. As soon as Gadaffi said he would wipe out the poplulation of misrata they should have gone 'ok bud, game over now'

NATO didn't go into Iraq, not the second time anyway.

The US has spent billions rebuilding Iraq and is doing the same in Afghanistan.
