The Corporation

Since the late 18th century American legal decision that the business corporation organizational model is legally a person, it has become a dominant economic, political and social force around the globe. This film takes an in-depth psychological examination of the organization model through various case studies. What the study illustrates is that in the its behaviour, this type of "person" typically acts like a dangerously destructive psychopath without conscience. Furthermore, we see the profound threat this psychopath has for our world and our future, but also how the people with courage, intelligence and determination can do to stop it.

The End of America:

The End of America details the ten steps a country takes when it slides toward fascism. It's not a "lefty"tot tome, rather a historical look at trends in once-functioning democracies from modern history that are being repeated in our country today. It gives any reader (or viewer of the lecture) a much-needed history lesson and constitutional refresher. Most importantly, it puts the recent gradual loss of civil liberties in the U.S. in a historical context. The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom is a BBC documentary series by English filmmaker Adam Curtis, well known for other documentaries including The Century of the Self and The Power of Nightmares. It began airing in the United Kingdom on BBC Two on 11 March 2007.
The series consists of three one-hour programmes which explore the concept and definition of freedom, specifically, "how a simplistic model of human beings as self-seeking, almost robotic, creatures led to today's idea of freedom".

Watched a great documentary last night called The Bridge. It's about suicide jumpers off the Golden Gate bridge. It has extensive interviews with family and friends of the deceased and be warned, it has a lot of footage of people jumping off the bridge. The film makers spent a year filming the bridge during daylight hours and caught a couple of dozen suicides and also some failed attempts.

It all sounds a bit voyeuristic and it is to an extent I suppose. I wasn't sure if I felt comfortable when watching initially but most, if not all of those filmed have extensive stories and back stories told about them from family and friends.

It's mesmerising to watch. I'd highly recommend it but some of the scenes might be upsetting to some or indeed distasteful, but if you go into it with that in mind, it's a fascinating insight into suicide and the people who commit the act and indeed the families and friends they leave behind.

Grizzly Man by Werner Herzog. It is about a guy called Timothy Treadwell who spent 13 summers in wildlife park in Alaska with the bears. The last 5 years of his life he brings a camera to record everything, from the mountains to talking to animals. He unfortunately died the last time he was there. Werner Herzog puts the film together and narrates.

Writing in The Globe and Mail Guy Dixon remarks "there's another controversy of the more cinematic kind: While the footage is expertly photographed, all the different uses of filters and postproduction colour correction (to say nothing of the superb sound) – which gives the film an almost Apocalypse Now quality at times – is disturbing when we're talking not about the mythology and madness of war, but about showing real, dead people in a ditch or actual children running from fighting."

Even that first clip from The Fallen had me close to tears.

One of my favourites is His and Hers - apart from being Irish, it is beautifully shot and put together. I think we sometimes take our mothers/grandmothers/aunts for granted and after watching this I wanted to just give my own mam a big hug.

A very good documentary in which he examines the "pros and cons" of euthanasia.

I highly recommend this documentary on North Korea from Vice.com. The most bizarre documentary i have seen. There are three parts. The third part shows the famous Arian games - choreographed mass gymnastics, amazing to see 100k people performing the show just for the documentary maker. Well worth a watch.

So far I have watched Grizzly Man, which I thought was excellent!

Then I watched 180 degrees south which was the best one. So simply done and not really a whole lot of shocking or interesting stuff going on, just a class documentary with who seem to be really nice guys looking to become more open minded and become better people!

Than I watched Catfish, which is very good. An odd story but very good! Can't really say a whole lot more.

But all great recommendations so far! Have Cocaine Cowboys and Life after People to watch now tomorrow!

Encounters at the End of the World was excellent, although most Documentaries have a goal, he seems to only really want to showcase the antartic, which is fine, werner herzog is insanely cool!

After the novel Kuroi Jukai was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year. The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently.

Two must see ones for me are,

Gene Sharp - How to Start a Revolution. It's based on his book which is been used as a pocket guide for the people of repressive regimes to over throw their dictorators peacefully. Has been associated and blamed for instigating protests within South America - Arab spring etc. Also the making of it is worth seeing as well. A must see for doco heads.The man is a legend............Can't find How to Start a Revolution on the free net yet, or I haven’t found them, but, if you have Current channel 183 on sky their both on their regularly.
