The very fact we needed this kind of lockdown of the city and hugely expensive security operation makes it very clear that she is not welcome here. Compare pictures of this visit to pictures from any of her other trips, from Turkey to the USA...no crowds waving Union Jacks, offering flowers, taking pictures. Nope, instead riot police, barriers, closed roads. Why is that? Don't the people in these countries have work to be doing too, paying for their mortgage / food / kids?

So far (I know, I know, it's only been 5 hours...) the British Queen's visit has been relatively classy, as opposed to what I was expecting. The British Media have been relatively classy in regards to it so far too. Hopefully the visit can pass off without incident and increase co-operation between our two countries.

With regards to the protest, I do hope that these Republican lads turn up in Ringsend when the Northern Ireland fans come down and cause havoc in that area for the 'Home Nations Cup'. But they won't.

I for one am happy that most of us have welcomed the Queen to our country.

We live in a more civilized society and have shown our ability to show a grown up respect for a country that is certainly one that wants to be our friend. I see no reason why we should not recipricate and try to encourage and progress this friendship.

There is nothing wrong with celebrating and remembering the brave of the past, but by trying to move forward. Trying to get over our national hangups are a progressive positive thing. I see no benefit to holding grudges and hate.

I had no intention of going out to cheer the Queen (even if I could), but I think today is a day for most Irish people to feel proud once again. Even to those of us that were not as passionate about what happened in the past, it still gives us goosebumps to see the Queen lay a wreath at the garden of rememberance.

Today is a day to enjoy and feel proud. Anybody who wants to protest should be allowed to do so, but not at everybody elses expense.

The very fact that we needed this lock down was because a small group didn't want her here and had the potential to cause chaos.
