Do you like Solicitors? ... do you think they are scum?

Came into contact with solicitors last year (hands on judgement type of thing) and no nothing to do with me personally :pac: over another issue.

But in my personal view I think alot of Solicitors are ... quite frankly scum. Sure, knew it for years. But as I say, hands on experience weighs more.

Am I alone in my thoughts that they are just deceptive, lack of morals, money grabbing ... scum I guess.

No not at all, they're necessary unfortunately however they've created the negative legal aspects of society we live in. I dont like club bouncers on a power trip either but again their existence is required.

How many time have you heard of criminals who are completely guilty getting off because of a technical fault in procedure. There was a case recently where a form wasnt signed by an expert and the guy got off. He was pretty much guaranteed jail, and yet he is on the streets reoffending.

What about people taking on large corporations having to sell everything the own for legal fees?
I did law in college, i worked in law firms, I've seen what goes on. My friends are solicitors and i can see them changing and using the word 'billing' in every conversation. Thats my reply.

I have two mates confined to wheelchairs from bike accidents both received good settlements. I am fortunately not to have any serious accidents in my 30 years biking but if I do and I am dealing with an awkward 3rd party I will get the best solicitor money can buy.

It pisses me off big time when I hear the likes of that lump of lard yesterday getting 450K for a libel slander on a radio show when there are far more serious cases involving PI and life time handicaps getting less.

The biggest problem in the legal profession that has hit in the last 20 years was legalising solicitors' advertising. I think it was in the 90's that a government investigation said that they should be allowed advertise because it would be better for the consumer. Virtually every solicitor I know said it would be an absolute disaster, because it would allow the scumbag, ambulance chasing, no-win no-fee chancers to have a national platform, when previously they were forced to stand at the gates of graveyards and hospitals where they were rightly told to get tae ****. I distinctly remember representatives putting this to government ministers when it was being discussed and the government ignored it.

They're a 'closed shop' profession that charge great amounts of money for little pieces of paper .We read about massive awards handed out by their collegeues the Judges in court but no mention of the cut the legal Crew get.My gripe would also be with those other parasites the undertakers here in dublin theres a mafia like hold on that business that gay mitchell tried to tackle a few years ago.That's another thread i hope soon.

They had little interest in truth or justice and a lot of interest in lining their pockets with tax payers money to an outrageous degree.

You can be too cynical too....there's a lot of good people in the world and there may be no proper regulating mechanism and ethics drift at their own momentum and become a mire of ways thats out of control.

My Solicitor Michael Lynn is brilliant he sorted out loads of mortgages for me over the years on various properties and told me not to worry about the “Legal Stuff. And according to the Plaque in his office he is fully regulated by the Law Society.

A solicitor takes a job .. its about money. your average one doesnt care if a person is a victim or not. Its about MONEY. Win or lose, they get MONEY. And depnding on what type of case if they win they get more MONEY.

Dont get me wrong, theres decent solicitors out there. But take a look at the ratio.

But here is a good question for you, out of all the court cases say in the last 10 years. how many solicitors have stepped down from repersenting someone out of morals? clearly a guilty client .... answer that one.

Do you think solicitors should refuse to represent clients who they believe to be guilty of a criminal offence?
