What to do when confronted by scumbags

So, walking home from the Luas tonight, and saw a large group of teenagers. I'm 25 myself, so there shouldn't be any problem, but I just knew they'd try something. Kept my head down, avoided them as best I could, next thing I know there was a large thwump, they threw something which just missed me (and judging from the sound, would've done some serious damage had it made contact). Next they threw a mobile phone (I'm not sure why they'd do that). That also missed. Nothing damaged, so I just walked on, after giving them a glare.

My question: Should I have done something? Or would I have risked getting the sh*t kicked out of me? And by not doing anything, have I just made them think it's okay/cool/funny to do it to the next guy that passes?

By large group I imagine there was at least 8 of them, even they are only 15 years old then you won't be fancying your chances against 8 of them. Always walk on if possible, it's the best way 100% of the time.

In saying that they may or may not sh1t themselves when challenged.

I'm not saying front up to them on spec.....that's a sure way to get killed.

But scum who throw stuff after you've walked by will not attack someone who turns around and represents. Believe that.

that is not always true. some of the real rough scumbags love a good challenging fight.

an idea ive heard is, if your brave/stupid (debatable) enough, walk up to a group of scumbags you know should be in jail by now, have a friend videotape the whole altercation, take a baytin if possible then bring the footage to the guards.
hard evidence and names? surely somehting might be done about it

Confidence is SFA use if there are 8 of them and one of you. I suspect they are feeling pretty optimistic themselves.

Years ago when I was studying martial arts the instructor was really clear on this issue. If you can run away do so. This was from a guy who could break contrete blocks with his fist.

One advantage you have over the average scumbag is intelligence. Use it.

scum never start without backup, who's to say if you floored one of them you would'nt get a screwdriver in the head from the one that sneaked up behind you?...

always ignore unless you are cornered. ye you felt a bit powerless at the time but at least you avoided any hassle...some of these pricks don't give a stuff whether they kill you or not...in fact they would get a pat on the back from their mates if they did murder you....

Your 25 and you let a bunch of 15 year olds bully you? If you see them again do not walk away or else it will more likely happen again in the future.

During the last winter a group of around 8-10 teenagers flung two ice balls at my brothers 911. He immediately pressed hard on the brakes and we both hopped out of the car and started walking swiftly towards them then they all ran away like a bunch of girls. Kids today get away with murder and nothing is being done to take action against them.

Depending on the type of teenagers, most of them will always run away when confronted.

Most of the guys i know who teach or train martial arts will say the best form of self defence is sprinting.

I wouldn't keep the head down if I were you. Makes you look weak, like you're trying to avoid them. Those are the people that they'll try the shít with. Keep your head up, look confident, slightly pissed off. Bit of eye contact is alright, but don't try and stare anyone down or anything.
