Could anyone tell me what the visa situation is if a student wanted to do their two weeks unpaid work experience in the USA?
Looking on the embassy website would seem to indicate that no more than the regular holiday clearance is required when its short term and unpaid, but its not clear.

    Anyone??

My understanding has always been that you cannot do any kind of work (paid or unpaid) on the VWP. They don't explicitly distinguish on the Dublin embassy website, other than to say you can't "work" on the VWP. If you google you'll find some specific instances in which some limited types of voluntary work would be sanctioned, but it seems very rare. If you know what you plan to be doing over there it might be an idea to call the embassy and ask them.
