Well, if you talk to someone who does not know what they are talking about on a whole range of issues, you tend to get the wrong answer.

The 1916 Rising was successful in that it achieved many of the aims that it set out to. Support for Sinn Fein and an Irish Republic grew and the Irish people in the next Gerneral Election threw their support behind Sinn Fein who went on to receive 73 seats to the Unionst's 26.

You can't say the rising was not a success because ALL goals were not achieved. Read the many quotes from the rebels on that day and you will see that they knew they were going to get slaughtered but they knew that they needed to go through with it anyway and yes many died and the city was destroyed but there is no way that they would have had the support in the 1918 elections that they did, had the Rising not took place and so without question the Rising was a success. Without that battle, they would not have won the war.

Any British man or woman that would roll their eyes when the see OAPs out celebrating D-Day is disgrace to their country and that goes for any member of an country around the world that had men and women who gave their lives so that future generations could live live unoppressed by a foreign power and yet has the gall to show them no respect.
