I was disgusted to read today that RTE ONE Television will have live coverage the royal wedding, Why are they doing this? Would they cover a royal wedding in Norway? What have those brits who were born with a sliver spoon in their mouth got to do with us? Why would us Irish want to watch that trash?

Look I never that was always the case. It's just in the context of this thread it seems to be for a lot of posters. A lot of the objections I've seen seem to stem from an inherant anti-Britishness and I personally think that there is no need for that in this day and age.

I honestly don't understand why people are surprised this will be shown. It's an event of international interest. They're the best known royal family in the world and there's a hell of a lot of interest in celebrity these days. I'd be shocked if RTE didn't show it.

I'm beginning to feel somewhat old. British Royal weddings being shown on RTE are nothing new, it's not a first, there are clearly people on here who are unaware of this, probably because they simply don't remember, hence the 'outrage'.

And we live in a more celeb obsessed world now than we did twenty/thirty years ago, which makes this even less of an issue.

Well that's the thing. If they were filmed, they'd most likely be shown and there'd be a market for them. But it's also the whole "show" of the wedding. Fro example, Katie Price's wedding would be watched with the same expectations as watching that "Gypsy Wedding" show, where as the royal wedding will be a spectacular fairytale wedding that many young girls (and some boys I expect) dream of. It's rare that you get to see it anywhere but in a movie or a book.

So in that regard, I can kind of see the interest. And to be honest, I always love seeing the lines of little old women waving their miniature union flags. They're hilarious.

The point is that if you're a football fan in Ireland you will naturally have an interest in the Premiership because the best Irish footballers play there.

I did not say objecting to the Wedding being broadcast makes you anti-British. What I was saying was that I feel from what I've read here that the reason people are objecting is because they are already anti-British. Inotherwords the Wedding is just another excuse for them to bash Britain.
