The Eddie Stobart Fan Club actually exists?

I started driving for Eddie Stobart Ireland a couple of weeks ago and heard a few people mentioning the Eddie Stobart Fan Club. I thought they were joking about the torch & pitch fork wielding Irish hauliers that have lost contracts to Stobart but it turns out there is actually a group of people whose pastime is truck spotting.

Now I appreciate a good truck as much as the next man(:D) but the rigs we drive are mostly only 380's and although clean and colourful arent really all that impressive. His system of operation is vastly more organised and structured that any other haulier I have driven for and he is obviously very big in both the UK and now Ireland but other than that can anyone explain the attraction?

the word stobart sounds cool.

but on a serious note, i seen that programme they had "Eddie Stobart, Trucks and Trailers" or something like that. i thought the naming system for the trucks was very cool, and there is a waiting list of several years to get a name on a truck.

wonder what the money is like ?
ive heard about hauliers that nice shiney motors with all the bell and whistles but the pay is only good enough for a young lad with no family or mortgage who just want to drive nice shiney trucks ,it would be interesting to find out the average age in stobart is .

Finally, Ive been saying this recently and no one would believe me. They are everywhere now.

On a side note AST did their Vinyl wrap... found it on their site when looking up Wrap options!

They started here with a depot in Dublin port 3 years ago. They then took all the work out of all the Tesco depots so all the Tesco trucks are replaced by Stobart trucks. He also took all the work out of Keelings. He has taken other huge contracts of irish hauliers.

Didnt think eddie himself was involved anymore, was he not ousted in a coup and replaced by a board of management. Stobart and dentressangle are like the Borg, resistance is futile. They buy so many tractors annually that they can throw the freebie units they get at a contract and wipe out the opposition. Not too sure their arrival is a good thing. Much like tescow will eliminated most small shopkeepers, Stobarts will probably spell doom for a lot of small hauliers..

their expansion in ireland is incredible, search stobart on trucknet uk and there are heaps of results, they seem to get a lot of abuse on there though,
the rally team is leaving faro in portugal to go across spain and the south of france down through italy then a ferry to syria and across to jordan for the next race:eek:
no idea what the wages are like though, they may annoy a lot of irish hauliers because it seems they will do a bit of everything,
although if nolans havnt put everyone else out of business yet they should be ok:)

For the normal Haulier about 80-90k depending on spec.

Of course! I think it works out he gets nearly 35-40 free units. He does the same with trailers..

haulage in this country is f...ed, stobart will do just about any kind of work even lowloader but he probably wont do tipper cos there is no money in it ,he will have trucks all over the country that will be available for work as back loads and so on and do it cheap just to get it ,and if his own trucks arnt doing it there will be hackers doing it for him cheap cos they have nothing else to do.

I noticed over the past few weeks that there are loads of his trucks on the M7/M9 motorway, have been up and down that road a few times over the last few weeks and have spotted at least 2 dozen of his trucks on the road..

Is there a depot located somewhere along that road?

AFAIK this company also owns an airport in the UK, and there were talks about them
taking over Galway airport, don't know if that happened. So much for laws on monopolies.

As someone already said, there based at Tesco sites in Ballymun and Donabate. Also they run from the Port.
