What beer are we drinking this week ?

Basically every week or 2 I try at new beer/ale that I never had before.

This week my local is stocking a few beers from Marstons brewery.

I am at the moment trying their Old Empire IPA. Very nice indeed.

Anyone else do something similar?

Erdinger Urweisse is OK: maybe a peg above their normal weissbier, but only a small one.

Thanks for the link ... coincidently, I have a curry on the hob at the mo stewing for tonight so it was interesting that you say some Weiss go well with Curry. You obviously were not overly excited by it but I'm looking forward to it all the same. I like my Weiss beers but obviously they are not as flavoursome as other beers but as you say they have their place.

Yeah cold bear is great with curry. The spice in the curry can really heat you up so a thirst quencher is good.

Had a Rochefort 10, 2 nights ago. A gorgeous beer it really is. Its been a while since I had one - too long.

IMO, Schneider and Weihenstephaner are the top-flight and the rest that I've tried are definitely second-tier or lower.

Weihenstephaner would be one of my favourites also but I'm not even sure if I have tried Schneider, must search it out, which probably means an order with Drink Store

. I usually go through a Weiss bier phase then have to shelve it for a while as they can get a bit samey and dull after a while.

Weiss beer isn't my favourite beer style generally - i find all that banana flavour too much.

But I find bitter ales (any good English bitter from Fuller's etc, or more robust stuff like Young's Special London Ale, Adnam's Innovation, craft IPAs from Sierra Nevada or Brew Dog) and Belgian ales (the usual Trappist suspects - Chimay, , etc - plus Hommel, Maredsous, Floreffe etc etc - double or tripel) all FANTASTIC with spicy food!

Belhaven Twisted Thistle IPA: a lovely hoppy ale going well with curry.

VW 1

Just had a Youngs double chocolate stout to start, lovely stout,one to sip slow and savour but it still disappeared quickly. Nice chocolate tones without them being overpowering and not too sweet at all.

Onto a bottle of Old Toms strong ale which is really rich on the palate with lots of spicy fruity tones.

Some bottles of peroni, light refreshing and easy to drink after these two heavier beers.

Some people love it and some people hate it. A guy in on of the off trades that stock it says it is one of his favourite beers. I only took two long necks of Asahi so I may or not be dissapointed.

Not quite although buying my own beer at cost price and also ex vat is quite nice. Free would be better but hey, that's life!

My missus used to run her own wine and beer warehouse in Limerick and she didn't even get products at cost price.

I'm in a hotel in cork right now, and being a cheapskate, have my beers in the mini bar. All the expensive gunk from inside has been neatly removed to make way for my assortment of beers.

Just drank the long neck of it. I thought it was fairly ok. I'd be happy to have another handed to me. Super Dry? Not really. More like Satin Smooth.

Just had O'hara's Leann Follain and have to admit another great stout to join Trouble Dark Arts.

Coffee tastes hint of chocolate and a bit of bitterness. Really surprised how good this stout is.

All O'Hara beer is 4 for €10 at Drinkstore sought stock up on this.

Oh he has done it? I was in a couple of weeks back and was told they were going to do this because they are now dealing directly with the brewery as opposed to a distributor.

Had the Dungarvan Blackrock stout on tap last night. I was on a stout mission yesterday it seems !

I liked it really but I think I prefer Dark Arts and Leann Follain.

I tried it for the first time the other night and thought that it was absolutely fantastic. I prefer it to their normal stout. I'll definitely be stocking up on some more. Blackrock is still my favourite just about though.

The Blackrock is from Cask. It's lovely but can't really be compared to Leann Follain or the bottled Blackrock because they are complletely different drinks essentially.

Stopped into the Porterhouse Central last night for a pint before getting my bus.

Had a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, previously only had it in bottle form and found the draught even better.

Asked the barman about their seasonal specials and he asked what I normally drank and then came back with 4 little measures of different beers(I hadn't asked) and talked me through them all. Ended up having a pint of Porterhouse Red but was great to find a barman who cared about what he was serving.

Chocolate Truffle Stout is due in a couple weeks as well.

Odell Levity amber ale. Lovely crisp ale with a hoppy finish. I reckon all Odell beers are very good at this stage as I haven't had a bad tasting one yet.

This would be a great session beer.
