What beer are we drinking this week ?

Basically every week or 2 I try at new beer/ale that I never had before.

This week my local is stocking a few beers from Marstons brewery.

I am at the moment trying their Old Empire IPA. Very nice indeed.

Anyone else do something similar?

I'd definitely agree with the Beernut, think Irish.

As Molloys Clondalkin is my local I'd love to see a bigger range of Irish Beers there.

Actually picked up a few from there yesterday.

Harviestoun Old Engine Oil - Lovely rich dark porter with strong flavours of chocolate malt with treacle like sweetness and a bitter after taste. I love their Bitter & Twisted so another thumbs up.

Brooklyn Penant Ale '55 - Like a cross between Brooklyn Lager and a light English Pale Ale. Nice, but nothing special.

Brooklyn East India Pale Ale - Very similar to Brooklyn Lager but with a much hoppier almost perfume like hop flavour.

Strangford Lough Legbiter - Didn't like this at all, so much so it ended up down the sink. Quite watery, with a really strange almost gingery after taste. Not impressed.

Anchor Steam Beer - Really nice beer. I've had it a few times in the Porterhouse so was delighted to see it in the local offy.

earlier on i had a btl of Erdinger Schneeweibe.
not a bad beer imo.

now im drinking a btl of MAREDSOUS bruin
a brillant btl of beer
would give it an A.
a dark ruby ale with a taste of hops and carmel i think.
i got this in the wine cellar maynooth.
will be back there for more tomorrow.

sorry about my descriptionof the erdinger but the
maredsous has blown me away lol.

tonight had a btl of Anchor steam beer-had this before and will get it again.
i just love the flavour and colour of this beer.

also had a btl of beer i got in Marks & Spencers just before xmas.
SOUTHWORLD WINTER BEER,its created by Adnams brewer Fergus Fitzgearld.
im sorry i just got the 1 btl as it is a fantastic ale-nice and dark with a lovely malty taste.
i doubt if they still stock it.

Both the Southwold Winter Beer and the Southwold Winter IPA are still on the shelves in the Jervis Centre, and part of their 6-for-5 mix-and-match with some other cracking stuff, like the Cornish IPA and Irish Stout.

I'm just about to leave Cork now and won't be back until Sunday night.
Here's hoping that I get back reasonably early on Sunday and all you greedy guzzlers leave me some beer.(I'd especially like some BarrelHead Cask left, please.)

Had a few Galway Hookers thanks to L.Mulligan last night. Tried also Belfast blonde for the 1st time.

It's not too bad. It's drinkable and I would say a very good summer beer.

I was just making sure it was actually Easter weekend as sometimes these things are not when they are supposed to be, like Oktoberfest in October.

Had a few pints of Bock in Messrs Maguires, has anybody any idea what homebrew kit would be similar to it?

Clocks in at 6.5% and still only €4 a pint.

A classic of the style, winner of the Best Overall Beer Award at the Independent Irish Beer & Whiskey Festival 2009. This strong beer is easy drinking, with a mild malty aroma and a medium body. Reasonably sweet for a stronger beer, this finishes clean and crisp and leaves you wanting more.

just had a btl of BREW DOG 5AM.
lovely tasty ale.it had a head the whole way down the glass.
the price for a 330ml btl is a bit steep but imo its worth it.
im glad the crap is on the outside of the btl.

now im having a btl of COOPERS vintage ale.

Had two bottles of M&S ales last night -

1. Cornish IPA. I'd give this one a thumbs-up... I'm convinced that the best IPAs in the world are from Cornwall. This one is quite similar to Sharps Atlantic IPA, perhaps no coincidence although it's not brewed by Sharps AFAIK.

2. Winter IPA. A hefty 6.5% strength doesn't stop this from being a very drinkable IPA. It's not, as you might expect from the strength, a hoppy American take on the style, but rather just a slightly spicy (maringally) darker than normal english IPA.

It's by St Austell, apparently a straight re-badge of Proper Job. Lovely beer.

tonite i went Baltic.

1st beer was a btl of Lacplesis-a Lativan beer.

2nd beer is a Kalnapilis pilsner-a lithuanian beer.

as lagers go they are ok.nice light colour.
the 1st beer keep its head but was a bit soapy at the end of the glass.
the 2nd beer was much nicer,very light to drink.imo you could drink 5 or 6 of these no problem.it had a crisp fresh taste to it.
if they were a small bit colder before i drank them they could have tasted even better.

Drinking beer cold hides the flavour. If a beer actually tastes better when served colder, it was never a good tasting beer to begin with.

That said cold beer is more refreshing, especially a lager and a cold lager with a curry is hard to beat

Just finished a Marks and Spencers Zarogozana Spanish very nice..
On the Innis Gunn for 1st time can tasty the toffee and vanilla a bit but still nice.

Spotted and picked some Erdinger Urweisse (I think) in my local off-licence. I have never seen this before and it is in a slightly more dumpy bottle than the other Erdingers available (Weisbier, Krystall, Dunkel, Alkoholfrei) so I'm curious ... what is this mysterious wheat beer, I ask, and is it any good. Obviously I'll find out for myself tonight but just wondering if any body has a view on it as there is not much information on the label.

Get some BarBar Blonde in the porter house in Dublin. Although they dont chill the glass and does not have the clamp top bottle which is nicer, but still hits the spot. One of the nicest beers Ive ever had. Slight honey kick off it.

The German aren't big on putting information on their labels. Vee ask the qvestions!

Erdinger Urweisse is OK: maybe a peg above their normal weissbier, but only a small one.
