MASTER...of the bra

How much does it cost to get an endoscopy done if you don't have Health Insurance? Where can someone get it done?

Im asking this on behalf of someone who has a medical Card but has already been waiting over 6 months thanks to idiot doctor who forgot to make the appointment for her. Not the first time either......:mad:

Will she be liable to pay for any resulting treatment out of her own pocket if she goes private for the endoscopy?

I assume you have to be referred to have it done?

Had one myself recently. I convinced the doctor it was urgent and he sent me to AandE. The doctor there messed up and done the wrong blood tests. the AandE guy refused to refer me to a specialist and said I should just go home. (my symptoms were severe at the time). I rang my doctor after and told him what happened. He rang the hospital and gave out stink about the doctor (under the new system, you usually go through AandE for a referral, idiotic I know). He rang the nurse in the endoscopy department in the hospital, explained the situation. I had it done exactly 5 days later.

If she goes private it will be out of her own pocket, get a better GP to refer you either directly or through AandE and it should only cost you the GP fee (covered under Medical card?)

ok she needs to ask her doctor to send a letter to a hospital that does an open access clinic. if she pays to have it done privately she will be looking at crazy money! PM me for more info if you want!

this is from the GP not from me.

Years ago if you needed to see a specialist or your GP recommended you do, he would refer you directly to that department/consultant. Since the HSE took over, while it is possible to do this (thats how I got it in the end) , you would be referred to AandE who would subsequently refer you to the department if your public. Could be complete bull, just repeating his words. Maybe he meant Vincents didn't have an open access clinic that you mentioned.

Also the AandE that did not order the correct bloods was Vincents.

I tried the A&E route over 4 years ago and because I did not fit the age profile I was not given the scope (even though I had a referal letter). In the end I went privatly (I do have the insurance) but it took over 6 weeks. If you really need a scope then the sooner you are diagnosed the better.
