I don't think John Barton is running.

According to this Galway East page on FB, (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Galway-East-Politics/100820196661814) :

Fine Gael are running Ciaran Cannon, Jimmy McClearn, Tom McHugh and Paul Connaughton Jr.
Sinn Féin are running Dermot Connolly.

This constituency like all constituencies in Ireland needs radical change - it would be great if someone like Declan Ganley threw his hat into the ring & shook things up a bit - it's being way too comfortable (and stagnant) for so long

Finally, a change in Galway East. Looking the roll of electoral results since 1981 on that Facebook page, same names almost unchanged with each election. Higgins deserves to do well, she is head and shoulders above anything in the race....

Looks like FG are going to do their usual stunt of running too many 'reasonably' strong candidates and splitting their vote too much. Having said that, their vote may increase enough this time around to carry them.

Is she campaigning in Dunmore? I presumed Colm Keaveney would focus his efforts on the north of the constituency while Higgins would focus on the Athenry/Gort/Loughrea/Portumna side.

I heard Michael Dolan was nominated on the Fianna Fail ticket last night along with Kitt. The contest was held in O'Deas hotel in Loughrea...

Anyone know anything about this fellas policies? :rolleyes:

He runs an accountancy firm in Loughrea but lives in Monivea.

I wasn't home at the time so I don't know if she was leafletting or canvassing but yes, definitely campaigning in Dunmore.

Labour canvassing in Loughrea yesterday, with Ruairi Quinn, OH seen them but they didn't approach her, luckily for them! I've had canvassers call to the house last week for Jimmy McClearn FG also.

I thought FF were leaning towards a one-candidate strategy, or is that just in particular constituencies?

Obviously that makes sense, because accountants like Bertie Ahern and Charlie McCreevey did such a good job regulating the banks.

The same thing was said about the accountant Charles J Haughey, and the accountant Charlie McCreevy when he became Mof, look where that got us. The really rotten stuff happened when idealogical bean counters took over and embarked on a course of tax breaks, avoidance schemes and looking after corporate welfare....

keavney seems to be polling well on the boards.ie election poll.

i'm a bit surprised but is this expected? i'd imagine he'll do v well around tuam. any opinion.

even if the sample so far is small enough.
