EOS 500D - SD Card Trouble PLEASE HELP

I have been travelling for the past 5 months and 3 weeks ago, i got this random error on my camera relative the memory card:

"Card cannot be accessed. Reinsert/change the card or format the card with the camera."

Its a Sandisk Ultra 32GB.

I don't care about the memory card, but can anyone help how i might recover the photos (2000 of them roughly)?

Cant use that program, as its not supported by mac

Also, no bent pin, tried that, and other memory cards work perfect in both my computer and camera

You didn't happen to slide the little lock on the card? check the side for a tiny switch, if that's in lock position you can't access the card. I know it's obvious, but lots of people get fright from it, my Da almost smashed his compact one time because he thought it was broken

Balls, card is definitely corrupt in that case. That's the only issue I know that gives off that error besides. Have you tried the card through a card reader on your pc or another laptop/pc? Might be an issue with the camera itself.

If card is corrupt, is there any way of recovering the photos?

If you google "Image recovery program for Mac" It brings up some options, unfortunately most of them are not free, the ones that are seem to be getting bad ratings. Seen one there that claims to be free but the reviews say it recovers, lets you see the images, but then asks for payment before you can actually fully recover them. Means it is possible though, you better do some searching, read the reviews before downloading any though.

Download the program recommended by pixbyjohn and install it on a friends PC if you want to recover your pics.

Good idea, you don't have to recover them on your own machine.

tried that (recova), its not recognizing the memory card. i.e. when i go to select the place to scan its not an option

Try using a card-reader and computer.

The first thing you should do is lock the card with the
write-protect switch. This should prevent you from overwriting
any recoverable data on the card. The next job is to make a
sector-by-sector copy of the entire card and save it to an
image file. This might leave you with recoverable data,
even if the card fails completely. I think the Mac has
some disk management tools. Is the "dd" command available?

Next try recovering files from the card using PhotoRec.
Versions are available for Mac, Linux and Windows.

I know this is wisdom with hindsight, but you really shouldn't
rely on memory cards for storage. Make regular backups.

Sandisk have their own data recovery software, it's worked for me when all else failed, do a search for sandisk rescue pro.
