Scientology-should it be destroyed?

I have nothing against religions, or people practising them in their own time, but lately been doing alot of reading and research on Scientology and WOW, some shocking stuff.

If you dont know what Scientology is about, basically its an organisation that is based around the belief that 75 billion years an evil overlord called Xenu ruled over the universe, the universe he found overpopulated so he decided to banish mass amounts of the beings from different planets to earth via ships that resemble with we would now deem airplane. They were then placed in volcanoes and blown up with H bombs and their spirits flew to earth taking host in humans.
And these spirits known as 'thetans' embody everything negative in our lives, and to get yourself sorted you need Scientology which through 'auditing' were you hold two tin cans while a little dial goes up and down indicating how your 'thetan' is reacting to questions your being asked.

This mad sh*t was made up by L Ron Hubbard, a science fiction writer(duh) who claimed to be a war hero and a whole host of other tremendous things that all turned out to be bullsh*t, and he died in hiding, wanted for fraud of 200 million.

Now the 'church' has a following of 10 million its believed, and they basically operate like a cult, take in impressionable people, take all their money and make them give all their time to the 'church', they are told to 'disconnect' which means they must cut out anyone that isnt into scientology this includes friends and family. you only get told the Xenu, thetan alien story when you fork out over 500 grand, until then your on the bridge to 'clear' which is suppose to give you super powers(I swear this is for real Im not spoofing)

They are well known for harrassing, intimidating, threatening anyone that disagrees or critisises them, they usually use their high priced legal eagles to sue anyone into oblivion but they will use other methods if need be, and people have turned up dead.

Basically the overall goal of Scientology is world domination, thankfully I dont think we are all that stupid to be taken in by blown up volcano demons, the other far fetched yet more acceptable religions do us

Should Scientology be destroyed, it is dangerous afterall to ones health

I'd rather target the practices they employ rather than put an outright ban what is at this stage a highly popular religion.

People should be allowed to believe in whatever horsesh*t they like, Xemu, Muhammed, Jesus, Ouija boards.

But in the same way, we should be able to criticise whatever we like without fear of retribution. Whether it be physical violence, stalking, or legal action. The law needs to stop protecting butthurt little pussies who can't take a little bit of reasoned criticism.

Circumcision is completely different than being forced to refuse medication or treatment for a life-threatening condition.

Well it depends on who is doing the interpreting but a lot of Christian and Jewish holy men say God doesn't want people use stem cell treatments, for example. At one time there was Christian opposition to vaccination. There is still Christian opposition to contraception, which can sometimes be life saving. Some medicine such as insulin injections for diabetes and some vaccinations are not Kosher. Judaism would teach that they should not be used.

That's just what I know off the top of my head. If I researched it I'm sure I could find some more instances.

If you ask me, Scientology is another sign that Americans somehow don't have an Irony Gland. L. Ron Hubbard was a SF author, who made it abundantly clear that he invented Scientology as a money-making scheme. Yet people still fell for it. Where's that Facepalm smiley?

Foreskin is there for a reason.
Removing it from an infant is a barbaric ritual which serves absolutely no rational purpose.
There are times when removal is needed, but they are few and far between. I've only known of three cases in my 34 years, 11 months and 359 days on this planet (don't forget my birthday next Saturday) and I have known hundreds, if not thousands of men throughout that time.

Wanna scam people with religion? Go with the Baptists.
Study the bible.
Pick and choose certain verses.
Interpret them to use as the hate message of your choosing.
Mention Jesus repeatedly.

That's the thing, without getting into the rights and wrongs of religion, at least with most religions you know what you are getting into and what their fundamental beliefs are.

The only thing that most people know about Scientology is the Xenu story and as a member you have to reach OTIII level before you find out about it.

That and if you pass a car crash on the side of the road, you know that you are the only person who can truly help.

I'd agree with Biko to a point, but then you just have to look at South Park's take on it in "Go God Go" episodes in which science becomes a religion with warring factions.

Parker and Stone are way ahead of their time in the parody stakes, and they are rarely wrong in their social commentary.

People are always going to look to something to have faith in. We're driven by the fight or flight response. As language developed, we used words as a way of fighting. Stories developed over time, which were purple monkey dishwashered over time and people started to believe the purple monkey dishwasher version of these stories.

All belief systems and their propogators rely on this system to survive. The thing about Scientology is that it's a new religion created in a time when more people are aware of the lies and misinterpretations of previous religions. Hubbard never saw the internet coming.

The beliefs of Scientology can not be criticised no more than any other world religion. However its practices is highly suspect, it is a money making machine pure and simple, it thrives on vulnerable people. Once you are inside Scientology it is very hard to get back out again. Most members are penniless, any money they receive goes straight into paying for courses and books. The lack of money makes it almost impossible to leave especially if the rest of your family is in there. Scientology is expanding quite rapidly mainly due to the economic situation we are faced with, it has left a lot of people feeling vulnerable and Scientologists can act like your best friends at a time like this and snare you in. Scientology is possibly one of the best run companies in the world.

Scientology is a dangerous cult, moreso than any of the religions in the world(to the welfare of the below average person in the immediate future), in that unlike the others, Scientologists basically have to surrender their posessions and life to the church through a series of quite watertight legal documents. Once you're in, it's very hard to get out. It takes the weak and ****s their life permanently, while although other religions do the same in terms of brainwashing, it doesnt destroy basically their entire future prospects in a very swift manner.

All religions are dangerous because they all promote the same extremely dangerous principal; the idea of segregation, exclusivity and group based mentalities. Back these with "faith" where nothing can be questioned and you have a receipe for a very dangerous atmosphere, as can be witnessed by the Islamic Jihads/Terrorist attacks, the holy wars etc.

As long as this "I'm in my group, you're in yours, we might be friends but at the core I'm right and you're wrong and I'm so much better for it" mentality is promoted, which no matter how charitable a church may be, is at the very core of it, mankind has a lot to worry about.

Now, when it comes to Scientology. As said, it's a dangerous cult with little footing in reality. However, it's a lot like smoking at this stage. Everyone is aware of the dangers and only the idiots are getting involved now. I don't think it'll ever be a significant threat as although it might officially have set itself as a religion in some countries and areas, for the most part it's regarded as a shady cult by the public and one that the majority just aren't going to succumb to.

The only worry with Scientology is the possible holding it may gain over political leaders in the US, the judicial system etc. However, this would take an inordinate amount of time given that for some bizarre reason, Catholicism is seen as a sign of intelligence in the US at the moment and not too many of those who want to be seen as intelligent are going to part with it for what is seen by most to be a crazy cult with sinister plans.

Given that it would take an extraordinary amount of time to actually gain significant power in any country or legal system, I think if it's going to do anything it will die out. Simply because, as time goes on, the organisation looks more stupid and more shady. There's a lot of intelligent people in the high ranked power sectors in the US and scientology just won't be able to take ahold of these people. Without that ability, it'll never gain the leverage of peer pressure and will most likely just never take off.

They're a bunch of arrogant, whack job assholes, but I don't think they're nearly as much of a threat as they're made out to be. I'm much more concerned about the grip Catholicism has on our country and how this grip has enabled scores of horric pedophiles to dodge going to prison where they belong. Not only this, but that grip has also enabled them to retain respect despite being shown as a entirely corrupt organisation, and the concept of Christianity to be little more than a farce. Combined, it should have wiped the Christian branches out yet I suppose there's just no convincing some people it seems.

Islam is a much bigger threat to the free world than Scientology will ever be. Now that is a religion/ideology to worry about.

Not really.

The Saudi's are currently the biggest producers and distributors of the Qu'ran in the world. The Saudi interpretation is very specific with regards to who the scum in the world are (Christians and Jews) and how they should be slain. You're welcome to read it yourself, they're available for free or little cost in a lot of countries, including Ireland. Most English translations have footnotes pertaining to what I've just said.

Pure Islam may be one thing, but the Islam that is spreading is another. When you have otherwise smart, normal girls stabbing UK politicians because some guy in a gave posting messages on the internet told her to, then it's worth worrying about.

Look back at Egypt and Iran in the 60s and 70s, before the spread of radicial Islam, and you'll note that the women weren't hidden and submissive, everything was progressing. Now look at them.

There's obviously scores of moderate muslims, however radical muslims are spreading everywhere and are more than just cause for concern, as can be seen from the footage of protests in NY by muslims, in the UK even as recently as the sentencing of that nutjob recently.

It's also a bit much to start your post with "apparently" and then claim I'm the one picking up the wrong messages. A bit silly if I may say so.
