Do you have a rating system for judging attractiveness?

The commonest one and one that my friends have and continue to use is the simple out of 10 system. This can apply to anyone, actress on tv, random woman walking down the street, lady you pulled in the nightclub the previous night (before the fun police get on my case, I am speaking as a straight man, feel free to tell me about your system if you have one).

So, for example, a comment might be "Awwww man, I can't believe you went away with a 5/10 bird last night". Now this may seem sexist or objectifying or whatever but the fact is this is how private familiar groups talk to each other (I'm sure women/gay men do similar).

It's very rara, in my experience that the magical 10/10 rating has been awarded....usually 8's or 9's are as high as it gets in Ireland but a few foreign women have reached the magical 10 score, I guess because their type of beauty is so exotic here (so I assume some of us would get higher scores if abroad).

A lot of lads I know have ratio ranges aswell, they'll say they'll always stick between the 6-10 bracket and never go lower, but alcohol can play a part in this. Nevertheless it's remarkable how much of a consensus there is amongst lads in my experience in terms of rating, usually if one guy thinks a girl is say a 9, then the group will agree, and the greatest disparity will be maybe one point up or down. It's by far the thing that my mates have least disagreements on - the relative attractiveness of women. What they notice also is the birds of a feather syndrome where girls will usually hang out with girls within one point of their attractiveness level, eights will hang around with other eights (or sevens and nines) and fours will hang out with fours (or fives and threes) - amongst males this phenomenon is nowhere near as prevalent.

Anyway do you use some kind of rating system to judge attractiveness? Maybe something more original than a simple out of 10 score.

Do you think having a rating system is wrong?

If so, then how do you judge initial physical attractiveness or compare one with another then?

Ive been with lots of West Broms before - they are very good at going down.

Been with a few Man Utds - They love being on top

The OP didn't ask that - and attractiveness doesn't just mean looks, that's only one aspect of attractiveness.

Going to the trouble, David Attenborough like, of examining the looks "standards" within different groups/creating a mathematical looks rating system - no, I don't do that. I judge a person's attractiveness based on my own criteria which isn't subject to the approval of my peers. Attractiveness is, after all, subjective.

ah come on now, you are getting too caught up with the peer thing....we all rate people on physical attractiveness within a few seconds of meeting them and if someone else happens to have the same view as ourselves i.e. person x is attractive, that doesn't necessarily make us sheep-minded shirley

It might sound like a cliche but unless once someone can make me laugh & I feel comfortable around them then I don't really care what they look like.
Plenty of good looking people have no personality at all & are usually shyte in bed

That said, it seems men are more wired to notice the visual than women are, which is totally fair enough, but actually going to the trouble of the above? Seems autistic/adolescent/dumb frat boy.

it's fairly harmless, in my view, unless your whole value-system is based on the physical attractiveness of the person in question.

Also I don't think it's a lot of trouble to say "I think your one is an 8, what do you think??"

You can call it autistic but I think men in particular prefer a more specific, clinincal assessment than something vague like "he/she's not bad/cute" etc etc

Purely physical attractiveness isn't the same thing as sexiness. How physically pretty someone is is only part of the question of how much you'd like to end up somewhere private with them (or public, if that's your particular preference). Nicole Scherzinger is very pretty, but Natalie Portman did an insanely aggressive rap on Saturday Night Live and may have faked being a Zionist in order to work with Alan Dershowitz while at Harvard. Granted, Natalie Portman is also extremely attractive, but so are any number of people in Hollywood - it's not her looks that set her aside.

Attractiveness is TOTALLY subjective, and not just about looks. Beauty isn't always subjective though, e.g. even if you don't fancy Cheryl Cole, you can't say she's ugly-looking - well you can, but that's like saying 30 degrees celsius is cold.

Im a simple man myself so I use the binary system.
Either 1 or 0. Nothing else.
1 = yes i would.
0 = no i wouldnt.

The 1 to 10 scale is just a waste of brainpower!
