Fire Simulation Software?

Hi All,

Looking for help.:D
I'm doing the 4th year honours progression in DIT, and for my thesis topic I am looking at fire, particularly fire spread within a building - particularly dwellings for the minute.
Im just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some decent fire sim software, and any other sites/books etc. that might be of use to me, other than the obvious BS5588, BS9999, TGD B etc.

Im posting this here first as it is an Arch. Tech. dissertation, and I know some arch techs have gone on to do fire engineering masters, so im hopeful people here might know.

If not, i'll post it on the the engineering forum after a while too, just to up the chances of getting replies.

For open sorce software you have 2 options.......

FDS by NIST

or

Openfoam

http://http://www.openfoam.com/

FDS is widely used and understood, but has it's coding flaws (ie pressure correction between grids).

Openfoam is a stronger general purpose code but as such will require more input from you.

Always remember that at their heart these codes are extremely simple and that there is no magic. This field is saturated with assumptions and experimental derived values, and as such requires a different philosophy to other disipline.
This type of software can only give you the wrong answer, therefor judgement and engineer analysis is vital.
