Does anyone know what the story is with the UMAT preparation material ?, They have been saying that they are updating it for weeks now...

Anyway, who's applying to do the HPAT this year ? How are you feeling ?

You do seem a little low, qasman, if you're calculating your points correctly (I'm not familiar with the A-level equivalency).

Lowest points last year for any of the colleges were 713 if I remember correctly ... Trinity (the highest) was 728 first round, dropped one or two points subsequently.

Ofc we don't know yet what they will be this year ... but I couldn't see them dropping tbh, and certainly not by more than a point or two.

(As Owen said, that's a good HPAT score)

I got 728 , would I be guaranteed a place in one of the colleges at this stage?

Welcome to Boards, pr0.

There are no guarantees at this stage, but given that 728 was the Trinity first round score last year, and it was the highest of the colleges for entry scores, you should be feeling pretty optimistic I'd say.

Did you do your LC last year?

hey thats wat i thought last year, i didnt get medicine so i did human genetics in Trinity, but it was such a waste of time, non of the modules were related to anything in medicine so i changed to speech and language therapy after three weeks which has the most modules that correspond to medicine!

Qasman, curious as to why you are not considering medicine in the UK. Is is because the UKCAT and BMAT are more difficult that the HPAT?Did you sit them?

no science wasn't the only option, i would just never repeat cuz i feel its a waste of time if you've put your all into it already cuz u prob wont improve it by much if you have plus its exhausting. I just reapplied thru the cao this year and did my hpat again so it dusn have anything to do with the course I'm doing. I just have always loved science and i knew thats what I wanted to do if med didn't work out and I could always go for postgrad. i don't really know but I'd do whatever interests you most that's science based, whatever you think you'd be happiest with.

You do know that if you get medicine in any college (well NUIG atleast) they call you up to ask you if you want to do pre-med or go straight into the 5yr course.:D

No, you don't. Anyone with HC3 in Chemistry and 1 other science is eligible, and then depending on places, they pick the top whatever amount to fill first med.

So, anyone got an offer or know anyone who got an offer in round zero from last year? It says 1st week of August, so its not far away! Anyone else here waiting for round zero 2010?

I'm sitting on 719 , and I'm hoping like others the points quota decreases or remains the same. Judging by the data we have received from acer it looks like it may decrease slightly! Here's hoping! Anyone have any thoughts?

Im just after finding out i was successful for HEAR application. Igot a Hpat score of 145. How many points would most likely be needed for medicine? I know the minimum entry requirements are required so would around 490-500 be enough or would more be needed

You mean me? Well I only got 159 +560 = 719. I don't think the nature of the HPAT lends itself to study. All I did was do the one measely practice test under test conditions and went through the answers in depth. It really isn't a thing you can prepare for, you just have to better yourself holistically, in order to achieve a higher score.

That's what I think anyway. I'm not a big fan of it myself, but that's a different discussion.:)

A bit late on the advice here but I heard that it's very hard to get the 5 yr course in UCD in comparison to RCSI or NUIG. If you want to really get the 5 yr course, this would prob be the best order :TCD, UCC, NUIG, RCSI, UCD but then again you have to consider other stuff like location,etc.

Before i got my hpat result I had emailed UCD to check their requirements for the five year course I asked did it depend on the chemistry grade you get but it actually depends on how many points you have. The highest leaving cert points and a-level results will be offered spaces on the five year course. So you would want to be fairly sure you got 600 points to put ucd near the top of your cao if you are adament you want to avoid pre-med.

It's for people who aren't waiting for leaving cert results. Could be HPAT repeaters, deferred applicants, mature applicants etc.

Acer website has all of the statistics and graphs, basic comparison with last years data appears to yield this conclusion. I won't post the mathematics, but direct percentile comparisons are providing a strong indicator of a potential decrease. However, it is also reliant on other variables such as LC results, demand for the course and much more. However, using the HPAT in isolation is why I've made the comment earlier. Seems to be the general consensus right now.

Hey Allego. I just looked at the %ile graphs you mentioned and I thought, if anything, they show that the points go up.

I got 77th %ile this year which was 167 points. I took a estimate of 4000 being the number of applicants. I realised that 167 last year was 89th %ile. Using the graphs and some maths, it seems that last year 440 people beat me but this year there where 1080 people who beat me. This seems that the points will go up.

I hope to god I made a mistake somewhere though...

I don't think 167 last year was 89th percentile. I was in the 96th with 194...don't think there was such a huge gap. I'll try find out the actual one....

From last years thread:

84th percentile: 173
73rd percentile: 164

So, going by that, the 77th percentile would be in or around 167/168ish. Theres only a very small variance in the scores between this year and last year, or so it seems

Hey Zen, I'm posting this using my mobile, but earlier I checked the graphs and I thought it was the opposite! I'll check again later after work, but unless I checked the wrong graph, I thought it looked good. Anyone else got the figures?

Edit- yea so there we go should slight decrease based on hpat alone...
