Bringing your own alcohol to pubs!

Hi people this is my first time posting in AH (I think). Just wondering what everyone thinks of people bringing their own alcohol to the pubs with them. Naggin's of vodka etc. I did it for the first time 3 weeks ago and saved an absolute fortune. I'm still a bit weary of being caught and turfed out with a nice embarassed head on me but Just wondering if its something that's done on a regular basis by loads of people. Apparently its all the rage.

Now if I saw someone take a cheeky swig from a hip flask I wouldn't think much of it, but if I saw some idiot, useful or not, steal my drink I'd be a very pissed off and that wouldn't end well for them. Not saying in a violent way, but i'd certainly make sure everyone knew what a cunt they were and that they were escorted from the club.

It's the same thing as with the smoking ban, the customer is the one smoking, but the pub will be fined. In essense we are responsible for policing the pub.

Pretty scummy thing to do tbh. A pub exists to sell drink.

And surely its a question of escalation? If everyone does it and the pubs allow it and it just becomes the norm then how can businesses survive? Try to remember that these places are businesses. They are not there for your pleasure alone. If they are not making money then we will have no more pubs/clubs whatever.

Another thing for me as a barman would be the fact that we are also liable for your drunkeness. Technically I'm not allowed serve a drunk person. If someone comes in and is consuming their own alcohol, I can't control it, I can't say when they've had enough. They walk out stinking drunk, falling all over the place, not only does it look bad for the premises for passers by, they could also seriously injure themselves, as you have been in our premises all evening, we could well find ourselves on the end of a lawsuit, and in this case the barman could be liable, not the business. (I am not suggesting that the OP or anyone in this thread would ever get that drunk.)

and there was I thinking people went to the pub to actually pay for food and drink from the publican. Pubs are businesses, not open houses to do whatever the hell you like in.

would never spend any more than 10-15 euro a night on drink in any pub or club. For pubs stash a 6-pack around the back outside the pub, buy one pint and keep going out for refills, tis very handy.

And for clubs just go out absolutely scuttered, and when drunk you're usually compelled to steal drinks (I am anyway)

I could not socialise with someone who brought their own alcohol to a pub or club. What kind of a nack would do that, scalehh for them like! :S

and there i was thinking people went to the cinema to see the films being played. well then i think you're on to something, ill let all the pirates know they need to film the comfy seats and the big screen, no need to worry about catching the movie itself.

People who do this must flat out sh!t when someone suggests rounds... or maybe when people might grab a bit of food somewhere on a night out do they run down to lidl/aldi and get some cheap alternative?

I agree, do it now and again. But yes, if you are doing it all the time you might be a little tight.

And apart from the bar owners, who is it bothering?

OP just get wrecked to the point that you can barely stand before you get to the pub. Then just buy a pint & make it last 2 hours. Works for me.:)

Ah the old Crouching Tiger, Hidden Naggin. Wouldn't do it in a pub but in a club I've done it in the past and will probably do it again. I wouldn't make a habbit of it, but hip-flasks are very handy in night clubs.

OP do it,if you get caught you get caught,just make sure you dont do it in a pub that your friends go to regularly,as if you get barred your saturdays night wouldn't be much fun anymore if your mates chose to go there again.

I bring a hipflask with me,not all the time but maybe twice a month,you can save a fortune,it'll be worth it!

if you're doing it every weekend just so you can be down the pub, you're a sponging cheapskate and need to be shot with balls of your own s'hite

I do this from time to time, especially during times when I have to go out alot and cannot afford it, for example at xmas.

And I agree, you save a fortune. I wouldnt do it every time I go out though. And I dont see anything wrong with it.

Yes, we know you dont NEED to drink to have fun. but quite often going to the pub is the only time you can meet ALL your friends in the same place.

Anyway, I think this has become a very big phenomenum as of late, much more than I remember in the past.
