Nor does it mean you are a complete idiot.. even the most straight forward mass followed by meal weddings can cost 20k very easily, especially if you come from a large extended family. Not everyone has a small family, not everyone wants a small wedding, and if you go beyond 100 people, unfortunately it's going to cost you. I've been saving with my OH for a while now and can afford to have a (hopefully!) great day and night out... but that's our choice. That doesn't mean a: we're going to end up in family courts b: we have plenty of dosh - we just saved religiously for it! c: we have rich daddy's or d: we're idiots! ps: it's the OH who's mad for the big wedding day and not the bride in this case!

And in this day and age a DJ is no longer required....get your ipod......stick on all of your fave songs...put it on shuffle...plug in to speakers...hey presto...cheap music!!! I really think people should make their own invites too....its not that hard....after all they only get looked at for about 5mins!!!:) I would also have a 1 year rule for friends who are not married....if you are going out with someone for less than a year then your coming on your own!!!Some might say it's harsh but im not paying for someones fling to have dinner at my expense!

To hire sound and lighting kit out is quite expensive and then you need someone to keep an eye on things as you don't want anything to go wrong on such a special day. Most djs won't be a whole lot more expensive to hire than the pa alone and the good ones will have backup equipment with them in case there is a problem. Had a look on Froogle.com you can buy sound and lighting kits from 140 euros to 1000+ and then when your finished you could sell it back on Ebay....its generally works out cheaper to buy things (doesn't have to be second hand)than hire...I also used this policy when building my house.:) Research is key!!

The normal price for a decent band is anywhere between €1,300 and €2,500. A bad band can put a dampener on the wedding. Aside from that, everyone looks near enough spot on. Great deal you got on the hotel. Your ribbons for cars will probably only come to a tener. You'd also want to check out the price for the cruise, that seems low I think. You may need to purchase return flights to Miami or somewhere to actually get on the cruise ship so allow for that. Also, you may spend quite a bit on honeymoon on food, drink, presents, etc. However, chances are you'll have a few quid in presents from the wedding so you'll be grand there. Best of luck with the planning

Cincikchick wrote: » sounds like you have a good starting point, but there are a few things that popped into my head reading your list, so I hope you don't mind some comments... Buying a dress online can be great, but it can also turn into a false economy. I know equal amounts of people who have bought online and been delighted, but also equally as many people who have been really disappointed. However, you have plenty of time and you could find a bargain in an actual shop. Mine was €700 inc alterations. This was a dress reduced from €2000! It was a sample, but they had it cleaned and honestly, there was no way of knowing that it had been a sample - it was like brand new. also Oxfam bridal shop have great bargains. It might be worth considering??? also, on the accessories - in the price you give, do you include shoes? if so again be careful that you and the bridesmaids will be actually able to walk in them! the specific 'wedding' shoes can be crazy money, which I think is far too overpriced, but most decent shoes would cost at least €30-40 I would estimate...3 bridesmaids at this would be €120, already over your budget. Also remember to include in your clothing budget underwear, if not for bridesmaids at least for yourself! When you get your dress depending on style you may not need special undies, but you should allow for this expense and then if you don't incurr it well and good. is the cousin providing the cake iced? if so, happy days...if not then most cake decorators charge most of their price for the icing, not the actual cake. When I enquired about icing alone it was only around €50 when providing my own cake. You don't necessarily need a really fancy job of the icing - simple can look amazing. Mine was white with just little iced dots of gold and a gold ribbon, then we decorated it in fresh flowers the same as the bouquets. It looked great. have you already priced these? decent silk/artificial flowers can cost as much as fresh. A lot of florists are doing packages, so don't rule a florist out. Likewise if you go for fresh flowers and choose simple styles for the bouquets then someone who has a knack for it could do a good job on them. A simple hand tied, of all the one type of flower is fairly easy to do with a bit of practice. I know this because I had a wedding here and one abroad - for the one abroad I really wanted a replica of the bouquet I had here, and not knowing a good florist over there I got a silk one done here and brought it with me. It looked great, but TBH it wasn't much cheaper than my fresh one. Plus my friend who is a florist said it actually took more work because he had to cut the plastic off a lot of the stems so he could assemble the bouquet and it was very fiddly. also, silk flowers have thicker plastic stems and can be more difficult to work with - particularly for small items like botton holes and corsages. have you included your registry fees (€150) and also your church/venue charges? Some churches can cost up to €500. Also, music for the service - will you get someone to do this? if so that might be another charge (or you can burn your own CD or arrange an iPod and save money here). just some of my thoughts....
