I'm just wondering what hunters use as their knife of choice. I have a small collection of knives. I found this one this morning on E-bay. Possibly my next purchase.

Here is a small sample of what I have, none very expensive Spanish Andujar Bowie style, next a Coyote Knife bought by my uncle in 1964 in Canada.
Victornox Lockable multi knife
Cheap Taiwanese knife I got in Army Bargains n Mary street.
And my little Gerber

I have a separate skinner with a gut hook not in pic. Since I started using a curved blade skinning deer a few years ago I have cleaner skins.

The Gerber is tiny but skinned a rabbit last week for my mate in longford.

Anyway lads, I was hoping to see some of your knives and see what guys use.

I would love a real Bowie but at €600+ I'll do without it untl I can afford one

I have seen the cold steel imitation but I'd be after something either stag antler or buffalo horn.

Any of yee guys got any nice hunting knives?

I find the joker knife very good , Have a few ,Find them great,

if ya fall on that knife it could go through ya
you only need a simple sharp knife i use a buck hunting knife which fold in two to hide the blade and then i have a victorinox to cut it up at home

I used the swiss army knife to bleed a few deer when i forgt to bring my Bowie style knife.

I think it is good to have a sharp point to make a channel to start the cut.
The cheap Spanish bowie has kept a serious edge for years now.

I have a butchers steel and around 15 butchers knifes of different shapes and sizes too. And a butchers hacksaw which is great for going through bone.

Any preference on a hunting knife?
Blade length shape etc?

I find that they keep a good edge ,But more important it sharpens with ease ,
Which i find very important for a field knife,

Jaysus Tac, thats some ass of a knife. Like the Damascus pattern. Its quite inexpensive considering its Damascus?? Would love to get nice fixed blade damascus someday. I have developed a nasty habit of picking up knives when im abroad. Try to get one from everywhere I visit.

Its the fourth knive/bottom left. Got this in a small town in N. Italy called Maniago. Big knive making town. Think its the main industry. Apparently lot of the swords in Lord of the Rings films were made here. Mainly use it for our larger species of deer.

I have several folders. And I have used them on occasion.
I just like the Bowie style.
The Coyote knife second from the top in the first pic I posted is a very old but tough folder.

even see one for sale on EBAY.
It is steel blade, not stainless and solid brass and resin. Very simple but very effective.

Although any knife will cut you if you are not careful !

I could not really answer that , Because there is so many models and they vary so much in price,
I have payed between 60 - 120 euro,

I doubt it s real Damascus more a laser/plasma etched job.
Last Damascus knife I looked at was €800

Saying that I would still like one, I think she is a real beauty

Well sure if its what ya like snap it up!! And if its the real deal its a steal. It is massive though, wouldnt be my cup of tae but each to their own. Same as, was looking at lovely damscus fixed before, around 800 beans aswell, needless to say it stayed on the shelf. Someday though, someday.

Cant see how they can do that when you think about amount of forging involved,
Damascus is usually folded up to a 1000 times , Which consists of several finer peaces of steel,
In turn giving it the grain of speckle effect,

i saw the dude off TIME Team getting a sword made before

they twisted steal rods together with heat and then hammered them flat. It was very nice but it would take a great amount of working to get the pattern shown on some of these modern knives

I saw a repo Damascus blade before where a part of the blade had no pattern, this screamed plasma etched to me. Or EDM sparking a pattern on.

Yet Japanese sword steel,is totally different to damascus.It doesnt have the traditional waves and whorls that we know.It is more symetical and uniform in patern.At least the blades I've seen.
