Thought the paper was somewhat convoluted.

Good few bits and pieces that have not been up in a few years....

Opinions on it? Hopefully scraped enough marks to pass it.

See here's where you're wrong! As I've already said before (you seem to have a problem comprehending certain things), I did put in the work. Last year, I did not put in the work. I got a B1. The reason I'm repeating is because, admittedly, I didn't put in enough work last year. I'm going to take a leaf out of your book, and be unnecessarily arrogant (except, in my case, it's the truth) - I'm excellent at maths. Never had a problem doing any sort of question on Paper 1. Can do them all without any sort of a problem. But I found this paper quite tough. I find it difficult to believe that you've spoken to an amount of people that found it simple comparable to the amount that have voiced their displeasure. Which is why your claims that the majority found it simple is so silly.

And no, you're wrong about the radio shows. They're specifically saying that this years paper was significantly more difficult than other years. Perhaps you have hearing difficulties as well as reading.

I'm sure you've got your A1 (wink wink). And I'm equally sure your pride won't let you admit anything else when you get your results and you scurry to post them on here. After all, you couldn't have all them internets peoples believing that you're anything less than a genius!

It's OK, I won't let them in on your "secret".

The thing is though, that I'm not claiming the majority found it hard. I specified that the majority of people that I've spoken to found it difficult. I'm not pompous enough to assume the fifty or so people I've heard from represent the opinion of the thousands of others who sat the paper.

It's fantastic that you and everyone you know found the paper so p1ss easy, but don't start assuming that the majority of students also found it so, and that anyone who disagrees hasn't worked. You're in no position to make such claims.

new to boards, long tim lurker , 1st time poster.

in regards to maths p1, i thought it was quite a frustrating paper, the change of layout and phrasing of part C's after so many years steeped in repetition and sameness was very unsettling.

i consider myself fairly capable at maths , well as far as ordinary level goes , and went into that exam comfortable that i could get the B i need, as i had put the study in . But because of its awkwardness , my whole college buzz could be at risk.

.and i really don't think my view on the paper is due to me being an idiot or being underprepared. i think that is why a lot of people are pissed off about it. we're not just venting because we're sore losers

Just because they aren't on here giving out, doesn't mean they thought it was easy. The majority of the people on here, and the radio are whatever are bound to be the ones who thought it was hard. How many people are going to be anxious to ring up Joe Duffy to whinge about how the maths exam was too easy? :rolleyes:

I too was going for the A1. I didn't even study as hard as I could have, and along with most of the people I know (as in leaving certs from more than just my school) found it simple. However, it most certainly wasn't luck, it was because I had looked over everything, and not just the bits I like/thought were coming up. The lazy crowd are the only people who are giving out about the paper. Resorting to name calling isn't going to get you anywhere, neither is moaning about the paper. The only thing that will help you is studying for P2.

As for your last little remark, i think I've already covered that.

If it's on the course, it's in your book. Unless your teacher isn't doing their job properly (which is a seperate matter) they have covered at least 6 questions for P1. Which means it wasn't new material.

fair enough there were some hard parts in it,

but like question 2, question 4, question 6 and question 8 were all liek other years

question 3 had the roots bit at the end, which was in fairness kinda tough

and question 7 the part c was a bit different but like, it wasn't that difficult compared to other years and like they said before we even started the course is being changed otherwise when project maths comes in, people will be absolutely devastated, so its causing you to think about things more which may be no bad thing.....

People who would have gotten A's all year in Hon((and pass)) in my school in which tests are marked ridic hard thought the pass paper was a tough one!

There were part Bs that could have been taken out of hons like!

i thought it was diffcult but sme may say it wasnt as they attempted q1 or 5 unlike me i had to do q2,3,4,6,7,8 and thought it was diffcult since 1995 and i think because of the formula book! as everything is in it

It was a challenging paper, but it wasn't the most difficult I've done. In my opinion it was a nice paper but I can see how certain people may have found it difficult. I really doubt the SEC are going to change the marking scheme though. The vast majority of people I've talked to have done pretty well with a few exceptions. :rolleyes:

Somewhat sensationalist to be honest with you- some people (myself included) struggle immensly with maths, and having a convoluted paper with items that I've never seen in a book, in a paper, or had explained to me in class come up IS difficult. I worked quite hard at Maths just so I can get a pass (to get into a course with no maths whatsoever I might add, therefore its a bit unfair to be saying students are lazy. There are probably few enough people who were lazy and not covered the material but I'd say they'd know better to come on and complain if they only have themselves to blame.

Hey , I thought it was a really really nice paper! I would say I got 50/50 in Q1 , Q3, Q4, Q5 and Q 7. Just wondering, for Q2 (c)(ii) Did anyone get -1/3 , 6 , -2 or something like that cant remember exactly...anyone take their answers down? Because I think I got everything else right in that Q, and if I got that right it would mean I got 50/50 again , giving me 100% for paper1

of course, I cant be certain I got everything right, but from the answers I see on this it looks like my answers are!!

Some people have maths in them and some don't, it doesn't matter how much they work/practise with them. Judging from your post I'd say you're pretty good at maths, but what about people who struggle to pass it and seen new things?
