Hey guys, I'm heading to Berlin for two weeks in June with a group of friends.
I've read through a few old topics here about Berlin but wanted to make this to get some more up-to-date recommendations as well.

We're a group of early 20s, love clubbing, dancing, meeting people.
And also I've a huge interest in history, adored studying it in school. I already have a list of places jotted down I'm dying to see there, and if anyone has any hints/tips on what they enjoyed most, fire away!

Holocaust memorial beside the Reichstag.
Victory pillar - near the tiergarten and reichstag.
The TV tower - book online so you don't have to queue. The revolving restaurant at the top is cool.

If you go to the Reichstag early in the morning, the queues won't be so bad. Its a disaster at other times.

Weather permitting, go for a beer and pizza beside a lake or river. Berlin has a relaxed atmosphere, its great to just hang around.

1) The USSR war memorial that's beside (to the west of) the Brandenburg Gates. Full of info on soldiers who died in the last two weeks before Germany's surrendur even though the war was long since over.

2) The Olymipic Stadium. Hitler's colosseum is amazing. It'll still be there long after your dead!! Also it's the home of Hertha Berlin and was the venue of the 2006 WC Final.

Hello, will be in Berlin for 3.5 days, what would people recommend to take in ?

I know there is so much to see and impossible to do it all in a few days,
but what would be the most important ?

There are open top buses touring Berlin. I them you get a guided tour.

After 20:00 hours you could go to Kürfürstendamm. Dining, pubs and so on.

Kneipe = Pub. Wein [vein] = wine. Schnitzel = cutlet.

Now that it's summer (and 30 degrees C!) go to admiralsbruecke any given evening. Everyone just buys beer in the off licenece (spatkauf) and drinks it there. Someone usually brings some music. Great way to meet strangers. Nearest U-Bahn is Kotbusser Tor (U8, U1)

Hi did you make it to Berlin? If so where did you stay i.e. what area (Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain,...?), did you find any good bars/clubs etc....cheers

the nightlife in berlin is possibly the best in the world, lots of underground clubs, ask around for warehouse parties. check out http://super.tacheles.de/cms/

There's a bit of controversy with that company. The tour guide, believe it or not, has to pay 3 euro for every person that takes the tour. I **** you not. Aparently, though, they still come out with a good wage, nonetheless and a lot of them get promoted to specialised tours which carry a set wage.

It's worth 7 or 8 if you ask me. Alternatively, follow from a distance and join about fifteen minutes after the tour leaves. That way, you are not counted in the originaly group and all your tip goes to the guide

Heading next Friday for 3 days and can't wait, staying in the Generator hostel and thanks to these old posts on this thread i know exactly how to get there and how much it will cost us. I presume I can get off at either Treptower park or Ostkreuz in order to get to Landsberger.

Defintely doing the musuems, the walking tour and plenty of beer tasting.

Are there any day trips run in the city to old concentration camps or Military bases and if so are they worth missing a day to see?

Catching a flight tomorow to Berlin. I was there last year and saw all the usual sights, The Wall, Brandeburg gate ect.

Im going for a week this time and would like some idea's on things to do, apart from the usual sights. Im taking my netbook with me so i can look for advise if i need it.

Actually, they've changed the route slightly: if you get the S9, you don't need to change at all! (Don't get the RE trains, because they don't stop at Ostkreux)

Get your transport ticket in the airport before you leave it. You will need to buy one to cover all 3 zones.

Get the SXF1 bus to Sudkreuz train station (every twenty minutes) and from there you can get the S2 (S-Bahn) in the direction of Bernau to Friedrichstrasse.

If you wanted, you could switch to the U-Bahn then and go one station to Oranienburger Tor, but the walk to your hotel is much of a muchness from either station.

Hang on - what's the address on that hotel? Because as far as I know, it's on Osloer Strasse, which is nowhere near Oranienburger Tor!

EDIT - There is a Best Western as described above, but it's NOT the Grand City! for Grand City, Osloer Strasse, take the S9 to Bornholmer Strasse, and it's about a 400m walk along said street. Or get the M13 tram with Virchnow Klinik on it one stop (transport ticket still covers you).

If it's the one on Albrechtstrasse, ignore this and go with Spurious advice.

Address is Osloer Straße 116a, Mitte, 13359 Berlin, i got help from someone i know who lives in germany who reckons its Bornholmerstrass i should get to as a train from the airport goes direct to there and its not a long walk to the hotel

Back from Berlin a day, wow what a city. Just a couple of recommendations now that I've been:

If you're in any way interested in art you MUST go to the Hamburger Banhof museum. It's contemporary art and has an impressive collection, loads of light and video installations too. Joseph Beuys, Andy Warhol, Bruce Nauman, fab.

If it's shopping you're after, the Alexa at Alexanderplatz is cool. Loads of shops, both German and international high street brands.

Rosenthalerstrasse has loads of cool bars, boutiques, theatres. Near by Hackescher Markt has loads of restuarants and some street performers.

For nights out, Bar 25 cannot be missed. Wow, what an experience. We got there at around 2am, queued for around half an hour, €8 in. It's so cool inside, like a giant Body and Soul area at Electric Picnic. Cheap booze, music, river, swings, camp fire. We left at 8am, people were still coming in!

Club der Visionaere was also really cool. Down by the canal, more chilled. One euro cover charge, cheap drink again.

Myself and two of the girls are going to Berlin on Monday untill thursday, asd was just wondering if anyone has any tips on wahts a must to see ang good places to ead out at night.

The two girls Im going with each have different kind of taste in music, but we are willing to compromise so the palces we would most likeley go to would have to range from kinda pop to indie I guess.

And culturally we really dont want to miss any oof the biggies

Im just really looking for tips and possibly links which amy be helpful jsut so we can maximise our time there.
