Ideas for Hen Nights in Ireland

Hi all,

Making a post here for my mother. Sister is getting is married in September, and my mother and other sister want to plan the Hen night. They don't want to go abroad, but anywhere in Ireland is fine.

Anyone have any really cool ideas?? As far as getting to locations, if they could fly that would be ideal. But if not, somewhere within a decent driving distance of Cork would be handy too. If they can't fly they are going to rent a bus or summit.

Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance.

Kilkenny or Galway are popular locations. Lots of hotels to choose from in either location.
Was in Kilkenny a few years ago, but had trouble booking a hotel for about 10 people, they kept saying no hen's, so I changed people's surnames and pretended we were sisters and cousins for a family party.
Can't remember the name of the night club we went to, think it was a disco bar or something, we just booked a restaurant and then wandered around the town to 2 or 3 places.

They have beautiful houses for rent on DreamIreland.com - you could have a party there, and hire a Wow-waiter or something? That would be fun!!!

Hi, im new to boards, my first post! We went to kilkenny on my hen last may, we stayed in the Kilford Arms hotel.When booking,we told them we were a hen party of 25, and they had no problems with that. We had fantastic time, they had a really good restaurant also.
Some of the pubs didnt allow hen/stag parties, but there was this pub bout 100 yards down the street on same side as hotel, and the fun they have there wit the bride to be is not to be missed.!!:D Not for the faint hearted tho..

I went on a hen night organised by this crowd, http://www.poshfizz.com/ we went to carlow and had spa treatment included at the hotel, we stayed in 2 houses on the hotel premises, so we didnt keep any hotel guest awake. it included a meal and entry to a club in carlow on the 2nd night.

Enniscorthy in Co Wexford is good.... i work in the local area and there seems to be a constant stream of them here every weekend and all seem to be enjoying it...

I'm planning my sisters at the moment...thinkin of the Blarney Hotel in cork..doing an art jam with a nude male model then onto the dog races for the evening....

afaik the blarney park hotel is closed and the blarney golf resort (the ramada) is gone into receivership..

Was it the ramada you were looking at?
I booked them for dinner the day of my daughters communion in may and found out 2 days later they were gone into recievership..
I'm not too sure what it means, i havent rang them yet, but AFAIK they are still operating, but i'm not sure for how long....

I am maid of honour for my sisters wedding in Aug. We are going on her hen in the middle of july. She doesnt want to ask any of the women to dress up as she thinks they would prefer to wear their own clothes. Can anyone recommend some cheap and cheerfull accesories that everyone would wear and that dont look tacky?Also can anyone recommend some games to play or ideas i want to make the night really special for her as its for one nite only.

I'm getting married next year and am thinking about doing the same thing that I organised for my cousin as I was her bridesmaid when she got married a few years ago. We all went horse racing in Naas. Everyone was from the Kilkenny area and we choose a day meeting at Naas Racecourse and booked 2 tables of ten for lunch and there was table betting etc. We all stayed in the Osprey hotel in naas because we were able to book the restaurant, few drinks in the bar, then nightclub all in one complex so we'd only to pay for mini bus to and from racecourse. Every had a fantastic day, it was a novelty as none of us would regularly go to the races. Only thing is we went in November when 1st race was half twleve so it was a very very long day and night drink wise but if you are having the hen in September you could choose a meeting that starts about 5 ish and book the hospitality dining and then head to a hotel in the area that has everything under one roof, bar, accommodation and decent nightclub. Wexford is meant to be great fun, also what about Killarney? Or hey, even Cork so no one has a hoor of a drive home ahead of them the next day.:D good luck!

I was on my hen night the second week in May for the weekend. My bridesmaids organised everything (they were fantastic!!!). Anyway we went to Waterford city and stayed in the Grandville Hotel (city centre). I had the best weekend ever as did everyone else. We got a great deal with the hotel 2 nights B&B incl 1 dinner for 109euro p/per! The staff were so friendly and nice, rooms were perfect and the food was fab! As for Waterford city, we had a blast! Everyone was so friendly and we'd no bother getting in anywhere (even with al the usual hen stuff on me the Fri nite). We're already planning a reunion trip back there next year!!

Murder Mystery hens are reported to be good - wouldn't be my cup of tea personally to be hones. Foxford Lodge in Mayo do them

In Galway the Greyhound track is fun and provide food for groups and have a full bar. Ensure to book in advance.

In Carrick on Shannon take a cruise with Moon river boats

Or alternatively look into the independent classes being offered for group rates, such as pole dancing and cocktail classes. A bit of fun would be a sex and the city theme hen with cocktail making class and everyone could wear their own clothes to that.
Or go with black & bling, black with costume jewellery and the hen can wear white.

I'm looking for good ideas for a hen too. It'll be happening the 1/2/3 of October.
Location Ireland (ROI or Northern)

Hoping to do a few things, perhaps an outdoorsy activity type thing, then maybe a cookery demonstration.

Quite night (?!) on the Friday and then a bit of dancing on the Saturday.
Nothing tacky (no L plates, no willy's real or fake :eek: etc.,) Just good craic and something interesting and different.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You won't beat Liverpool for a hen or a stag night girls and Ryanair fly there.
Taxis from the airport are dead cheap and loads of decent priced hotels there.

I don't mean to offend, so please don't take offense from this but Liverpool would equal tacky and milkycoffey said she didn't want tacky. Liverpool for a stag/hen is just bleurgh. I'm not trying to generalise but I haven't heard great things about Liverpool so just saying my opinion, I'm sure others will have different opinions.

I think the cookery class would be a sweet idea, maybe a cocktail making class would be fun too? You could do that during the day and then go out for a really nice dinner after, no need to even do the whole outdoorsy thing if you weren't pushed on that.

Oh!!! A burlesque class would be brilliant! Or how about a pole dancing class instead? Ugh the life drawing class though, ugh!! I personally would hate that, I hope ya realise that not all "models" have good bodies, a friend of mine did art in college and part of it was life drawing, one of the male models was this big huge overweight guy, he said it was horrible!! lol so just be aware that it may not be a hot guy that you'd be drawing!!

I was thinking just a meal and a few drinks followed by an Ann Summers party for the laugh in the general are I live in.

I think people would appreciate being able to go home at the end of the night and it's a bit more cost effective.

As for the life drawing class, It'd be more craic if he wasn't one of those muscley fellas! I'd be allergic to them!
Probably will be a no go though. The poor man would probably have a complex by the time he left

I really wanna go camping for my hen party... but I'm getting married the beginning of April so there's no way to plan camping for February or even March

in case we get similar weather to this year. Similarly I'd love to hire a boat for a weekend or something... but same problem. I'm living in England so thinking of maybe doing it early and going to Edinburgh for Hogmanay.. but then I'd be dragging people away for New years eve. I just dunno... is there anything I've always wanted to do?????:o

for my cousins hen, we went to Carlingford in Louth - booked 2 houses so could all come and go as we pleased, was nice all been able to sit around and have brekkie together on the sat mrn and spend the day chilling before we all headed out on the sat nite

also went to mullingar for a 2 diff mates hens and stayed in mullingar park hotel and grevill arms hotel - both good fun

Was down in Kenmare recently, not for a hen, just a girly weekend away, and stayed in a house in the Kenmare Bay Hotel. They had a few stag & hen parties there that weekend staying in houses. They seemed to have one block of houses that they let out to hens & stags, and then keep the houses rented out by families a bit away from it, so you don't have to worry about making lots of noise.

It's a great old spot for going out, and there are lots of activities that you can during the day if you're looking for that kind of thing as well. I would definitely recommend Kenmare for any kind of weekend away.

I went to a hen night last year that was a Pajama Party in the Beacon Hotel, Sandyford. It was great fun. We were supplied with cocktails, food, movies and ice cream at 2am!

I am trying to organise a hen weekend in January 2011. I am having trouble trying to think of day time activities for the Saturday. It will be a group of 15 hens and we dont want the typical tacky activities ( L plates etc) I was thinking of renting a house in Galway.

2 years ago a group of us went to kilkenny for my cousins hen - we hired out houses in Carlingford - there was bout 14 of us and i think the accom cost us about €70 each.
would you be looking to stay in Hotels or Self service accom?
also how many going? as you could stay in a town close to Carrick and maybe hire a bus to bring ye to the venue in carrick.
